The Architect by Nikki Sloan

5 STARS

Release Date: February 23, 2021

SYNOPSIS: On the surface, my new boyfriend is a stiff, buttoned-up architect. He plans every detail of his life while carefully maintaining the walls he’s built around his heart. But when the biggest project of his career pulls him away, Clay’s solution is both temporary and unconventional. It even comes with a name—Travis. This handsome stranger is sweet and thoughtful. He’s only meant to be a stand-in, to fulfill my needs under Clay’s watchful direction, yet these two men couldn’t be more different. The one thing they share? Well, I guess that would be me. One gets off on my pain, the other on my pleasure, and it awakens a desire none of us knew existed. But it can’t last.

Eventually I’ll have to choose.
And it’s going to destroy us all.

This is Book 3 in the Nashville Neighborhood Series (Age-Gap Romances)

REVIEW: *Fans self* Yes, I’m gonna need a tall glass of water after this deliciously steamy read. I mean the story has so much sex from right off the bat that you better have your poker face ready if reading this one in public. Nikki Sloane always writes really hot scenes between the characters but this one was on a-whole-nother level compared to the other Nashville Neighborhood books. Similar to the other books, the relationship was definitely a little taboo compared to what we typically see out in society. The great thing is that Nikki Sloan is wonderful at showing how much the characters care about each other and what the relationships really are about. I loved seeing the growth of the relationships, as well as how the characters not going to be put in a box or labeled. They go after what they want and what makes them happy. Whenever I think about books like this, I think about how people might be scandalized by the taboo part. And it’s funny, because when I read books like this I might think in passing “that probably wouldn’t work for me” but what I’m really focused on is the relationship itself. And when you actually look at the support the characters give each other their relationship is better than a lot of the stereotypical heteronormative relationships that you see going on in our society. That’s what makes this romance a great romance–the characters have genuine love for each other and what else do you want in a romance book? This was by far my favorite of the series!

Thank you to Nikki Sloan and Valentine PR for the eARC in exchange for an honest review!
