The Frat Boy by Nikki Sloan

5 STARS!!!

Release Date: December 6, 2022

SYNOPSIS: Colin Novak is the big man on campus. Huge—if the rumors are to be believed. Nearly every girl at Davidson University has had a ride on him . . . everyone, except me. Which is fine. This frat boy may be irritatingly hot, all carved muscle with a deceptively wholesome smile, but that’s irrelevant. He’s a Sig. When I catch his fraternity cheating at the Greek Week tournament, he denies it–causing our rivalry between houses to escalate. Colin and I may have started the mud fight, but it grows into an all-out war, and ends with us expelled from our houses. Now I’m homeless and it’s all his fault. So, while answering an ad for a leading role at an adult film company wasn’t part of my career path, the work comes with a lot of perks. Steady salary Accommodations close to campus. A safe place to explore my fantasies. Except when I show up for my audition, my partner is none other than my new archenemy—Colin. And our sexual chemistry is explosive. We hate how attracted we are to each other, and I despise that I want every scene to be with him. Because the longer we live together, the more I see he’s not who I thought he was. This frat boy was so easy to hate . . . but what if he’s even easier to love?

This is Book 4 in the Nashville Neighborhood Series

REVIEW: I love the Nashville Neighborhood Series and all of its taboo/forbidden topics. I went into this one kind of blind, but I had a feeling I was going to like it. From the beginning I seriously had no idea where it was going, and then when I found out I was super surprised. There’s an underlying storyline here that always makes me a little uncomfortable, but at the same time I appreciated how everything was handled by Nikki Sloane. In fact, this book is actually one of my top books in 2022.

The connection between the two main characters is like a live wire throughout the story. It’s like their chemistry jumped out of the pages, I could feel it and I was so invested in it. These to hate each other in the beginning, but they just can’t deny the underlying attraction and feelings that develop as time goes on. And when they’re in the scenes; the way the male character can’t seem to look away from the female character, HOLY SHIT. I mean, seriously, this book had me in a chokehold. I loved both of the characters. I loved their depth, I loved their connection, I just loved everything about how their whole journey played out.

I also loved seeing the characters from the previous books pop up in this one, and the Nashville Neighborhood HOA lady plot line reach its climax! Madison was the one that found information that helped the whole neighborhood. This lady has been a pain in the ass in every book, and seeing what happens in the end was just so damn satisfying.

These books are not for everyone, but I feel like they should be. Just because a book covers things that maybe you may not be into, doesn’t mean it doesn’t tell a fantastic story. These are definitely spicy, with lots and lots of steamy scenes, but there is a story here. These books do a great job humanizing people that have different preferences than the societal norm that is talked about and often expected of us. Something else I appreciate is that the characters really love one another, and there’s a deep connection that I think is beautiful.

This series has been fantastic. I love books that take me outside of my comfort zone, teach me something, and showcase the depth of love and connection. This series delivers on it all! Seriously, read each and every book!

Single and Ready to Jingle by Piper Rayne

4 Stars

Release Date: November 15, 2022

Synopsis: The girl who loves Christmas falls for the Grinch—it’s a Christmas miracle. What started as a dumpster fire of a blind date turns into a deal. In truth, it probably didn’t help that I showed up dressed like an elf but that’s a story for another time. Our start was rocky at best which is why it’s so frustrating that I can’t stop thinking about his sexy British accent. Or the way his chest and arms fill out his suit. Or his perfect hair with that single streak of grey at the front. Santa likes lists and so do I, so here’s all the reasons why Andrew and I aren’t right for each other: He’s my brother’s best friend He’s the biggest grump I’ve ever met. He hates Christmas.
That last one is big for a girl like me who thinks that the entire month of December should be a national holiday. So, when he calls for my help in planning his firm’s holiday party, I can’t pass up the opportunity to grow my small business. Bonus, we make a deal, and he agrees to attend three holiday events with me so I can make him fall in love with Christmas. As if I’d pass up an opportunity to make a Grinch’s heart grow three times its size. It isn’t long until I discover Andrew has a very real reason to hate Christmas and I start to see him in a different light. That’s when the Christmas miracle begins.

REVIEW: The opening scene of this one was hilarious!! I also didn’t see how they would end up falling for each other and yet Piper Rayne made it happen. I enjoyed their journey. How they connected and got to know each other really made watching them fall for each other fun. I also like how realistic it was that their own issues came up in the relationship, and the other person tried to support them through it. I feel like these two tended to have the best intentions for each other and wanted each other to be happy throughout the whole story. I really do love a good holiday romance that can make me laugh, is a little cheesy, and has a grump changing his ways.

Snowed in with the Player by Rebecca Jenshak

5 STARS!!!

Release Date: October 25, 2022

SYNOPSIS: It was supposed to be a weekend of holiday cheer. Just me and my twin sister, watching Christmas movies and baking cookies. My brother was absolutely not supposed to show up with half the football team. Including Teddy. My brother’s best friend and my secret crush. I’m the shy sister. The one with her nose stuck in a book and quoting every word of Elf, not the one getting attention from guys like Teddy. He’s cool and smart and so handsome I could die. The only thing that could make things worse is if I got snowed in with him. Alone.

This is a Holiday Novella set in the Valley U universe by Rebecca Jenshak!

REVIEW: This book is like the coziest holiday hug! Plus a little bit of steam to keep you warm all over. I like how awkward these two are with one another when left alone. It was so fun to see their mutual attraction come to light, especially with Holly thinking he’d never like her. Seriously, these two are just so sweet, and the Christmas setting makes it all the sweeter. I also love how Teddy notices the little things about Holly, and their connection over celebrating Christmas. I’m pretty excited for Stella and Beau’s book after the little interaction in this one! Good thing Sneaking Around with the Player comes out December 6th. I also have it on good authority that these two novellas will be offered in one paperback when the second comes out, and you know I will be one-clicking that with a quickness!!

Fractured Sky by Catherine Cowles

ALL THE STARS!

Release Date: October 25, 2022

Synopsis: Damaged. Broken. Destroyed. I’ve heard it all. A single moment of trusting the wrong person shattered my life into pieces, and my family has never looked at me the same. It’s impossible to convince them that I’m anything more than the broken girl they rescued all those years ago. Until I meet him. Ramsey’s surly demeanor and menacing scowl scare most of the world away. But not
me. Not when I’ve seen his gentle hands soothe an abused colt or comfort a terrified mare. And when I finally get up the courage to strike out on my own, Ramsey’s there.
Roommates felt like such a safe proposition until Ramsey’s lingering touches and
wicked smile light a fire in me I don’t think will ever be extinguished. And he feels it too… But just as my new life begins to take root, an evil from my past emerges from the
shadows, casting a darkness on my newfound freedom. And this time, they won’t settle for pieces of me. They want everything…

An age gap, roommates-to-lovers small town romance from USA Today
bestselling author Catherine Cowles…

Review: Talk about series I love, this one really brought the entire series full circle. This whole series is influenced by a kidnapping that took place when these characters were children. Readers get Everly‘s side of the story in the first book, and you learn about how Hayes feels responsible for the events that happen. I absolutely fell in love with those two in the first book, and I knew I’d love the rest of this series.

It was really amazing to get Shiloh‘s point of view from not only the kidnapping, but also the present. She continuously pops up in books 1-4, but she is a bit of a mystery. Readers kind of get a glimpse of Ramsey in previous books, but with even more depth in the last book, I knew I was going to love him! These two were so perfect for each other, and I loved seeing their growth and healing as they connected to each other. Their connection to each other and with horses really humanize them. I’ve been invested in Shiloh since book one, and having to wait for book five was ridiculously hard, but totally worth the wait. I also love how the boys, Aiden and Elliot, came into the story. The connection they had to both Shiloh and Ramsey was so heartwarming. It’s really wonderful to see all of the characters from previous books in this one, and we get a wedding at the end that really brings the whole series full circle. I honestly love when I go into a book with very high expectations, and I feel like all of those expectations are exceeded. This book was everything I wanted to be and more!

Catherine Cowles does such an amazing job at writing multi-layered romantic suspense with characters that have depth. Her books just pull me in and every series feels like it’s better than the last, which doesn’t seem possible. I fell in love with The Wrecked Series, and now I’m obsessed with this Tattered and Torn series. I cannot wait to see what Catherine Cowles brings us next.

Thank you to Catherine Cowles and Social Butterfly PR for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Sneak Peek: Fractured Sky by Catherine Cowles

It’s them against the world.
Fractured Sky, a moving and passionate, forced proximity, grumpy hero contemporary romance from USA Today bestselling author Catherine Cowles is coming on October 25th, and we have your first look!

Ramsey
My skin prickled, an awareness and phantom energy washing over me as I stroked the gelding’s back. My gaze pulled to the ridge. But Shiloh wasn’t there. It was the flash of her long braid in the breeze that cued me into her new location.

My breath caught in my throat at seeing those light blue eyes close-up. They could steal every last semblance of sanity from a man’s brain. I froze, standing stock-still.

Shiloh didn’t say a word, just watched from her seat on the ground right outside the pen. Her gaze locked on my hand on the horse’s back. He twitched in place, and I let a few silent curses fly.

I wasn’t easily distracted. I prided myself on my focus and ability to tune out the rest of the world when I worked with the horses. My jaw clenched as I zeroed in on the task at hand. But I was aware of my dog making his way over to her—the traitor.

Sliding my palm across the gelding’s back, I gave him a good scratch. He pushed against my hand, wanting more of the contact. That hunger for connection was a good sign. I backed away, reaching for the blanket on the fence rail. The horse shied away from me a few steps.

I stood where I was, rubbing my hand against the fabric. I wanted him to see that he had nothing to fear. I waited for the shift—the one I could feel from across the pen. The one that meant an easing in his energy. As soon as I felt it, I stepped forward.

The gelding’s gaze locked on the colorful, woven blanket. It was one of my favorites. Made by a local woman, it reminded me of a sunset—the colors of a brightly painted sky. Slowly, I lifted the blanket and let the horse sniff it. It was freshly laundered, so it didn’t have the scent of any other animals.

He inhaled and then huffed out a breath.

“See, nothing to worry about.” I lifted the blanket to his neck and rubbed gently.

The horse braced himself at first, muscles locked and seemingly ready to bolt. But as no pain came, he eased a bit. The gelding’s acceptance of the something new happened in slow shifts. I lost track of time in the dance. There was only him and me.

Finally, he stood in a relaxed posture, the blanket on his back as I scratched behind his ears. “Not so bad, right?”

The gelding’s ears twitched.

“All right, enough for today.” I pulled the blanket from his back and moved to the fence. My steps hitched a bit as I caught sight of Shiloh again. She didn’t move from her seat as I slid between the rails and placed the blanket back on the top.

I waited for her to bolt, but she didn’t show any signs of leaving. My pulse beat a rapid rhythm in my neck. Dangerous. Too damn risky. To be this close to her… To see how the gold woven through her light brown hair caught the light. To capture the spark in those blue eyes.

“What’s his name?”

Everything in me locked. It was the first time I’d heard Shiloh’s voice. It had just a hint of rasp to it. Some huskiness. An edge that I swore I could feel skating across my skin.

“No name yet.”

Her gaze turned to me, her eyes glinting in the afternoon light. “Don’t you think he deserves a name?”

“He deserves the right name. That takes time.”

I saw something in Shiloh’s expression, a hint of surprise and something that looked a lot like longing. “He does deserve that.” Her hand sifted into Kai’s fur, and he leaned against her.

Shiloh rested her head atop his, cuddling him to her chest. I’d never seen anything like it. Kai sought me out for affection, but not like this. He was a goner for the woman, and I couldn’t blame him.

“You want to meet him?” The words were out of my mouth before I could stop them.

Shiloh’s gaze flew to mine. “Really?”

“Sure. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to get him used to other people.” It was the part of the process my operation lacked since only Lor and I were ever here.

Shiloh nuzzled Kai and got to her feet. “I’ve worked with plenty of horses, but never one that’s been hurt the way he has.”

“Calm and steady. Don’t let his actions make you react.” I ducked between the pen’s rails and stepped inside.

She followed, moving slowly and evenly. She kept her gaze on the horse but didn’t stare. The gelding pawed at the earth as if marking his territory. Shiloh stilled.

“Breathe through it. He’ll feel your tension if it’s in you.”

She let out a long breath, and I watched hints of unease bleed from her muscles. The horse stopped pawing. His gaze didn’t leave us, though. It was two against one, and he wasn’t a fan of those odds.
