The loss of her parents took her from Carmel Cove and the loss of her grandfather brought her back. Unexpectedly inheriting the shambles of her familyโ€™s coffee shop, her first instinct is to run.

So, Laurel makes a plan: fix up the business, sell it, and get out of town. And it wouldโ€™ve been perfectโ€ฆ if the building hadnโ€™t come with a condition: a stubborn, broody, and distractingly sexy contractor.

Eli Downing made a promise to look after Laurel, and offering to repair the coffeeshop is just the start. Heโ€™s not going anywhere whether she likes it or not. And for as many walls as she pays him to fix, heโ€™s determined to tear down the same from around her hardened heart.

Unfortunately, Carmel has only given Laurel one outcome she can rely on. And when loss draws another line in the sand,

REVIEW

This one was emotional. Laurel has lost a lot of people, and the loss of her grandfather is what brings her back to her hometown. Eli’s character is really wonderful and the chemistry is really enticing, which helped because Laurel isn’t exactly lovable in her grief at times (which is totally understandable). I think this is a beautiful journey of life, loss, and grief. Sharp weaves a alluring tale with depth and feeling.

A Secret for a Secret by Helena Hunting

5 STARS

Release Date: May 12, 2020

Publisher: Montlake

SYNOPSIS: My name is Ryan Kingston, and Iโ€™m a rule follower. Iโ€™ve never been in a fistfight. I always obey the speed limit. I donโ€™t get drunk, and I definitely donโ€™t pick up random women at bars. Except the night I found out that my whole existence has been a lie. I got drunk. And picked up a stranger. Her name was Queenie, and she was everything Iโ€™m not: reckless, impulsive, and chaotic. We did shots and traded secrets. And ended up naked at my place. She left me a thank-you note in the morning and her panties as a parting gift. But no way to contact her. Six weeks later Iโ€™m sitting in the first official team meeting of the season, and there she is. I neglected to mention that Iโ€™m the goalie for Seattleโ€™s NHL team. And Queenie? Turns out sheโ€™s the general managerโ€™s daughter.

REVIEW

Seriously, I am loving this series. The little bit we see of King in A Favor for a Favor had me super interested in what his story would be like. The milk, the khakis, and all the manners. The is the ultimate opposites attract and it was great! Getting to know these characters was super fun. King, well he is definitely book boyfriend material, even though I don’t know how I could handle letting him drive (you’ll see). And Queenie? She is a hot mess, but for a lot of valid reasons. The story touches on the impact of keeping secrets out of embarrassment, which is just such a real topic. It’s something many of us has done, and the majority of the time it doesn’t make things better. The support and caring we see as events happen in this book is super heartwarming. I just loved it and I’m hoping we’re going to get more from the All in Series!

The Teaching Hours by Sara Ney

4 STARS!

Release Date: May 5, 2020

SYNOPSIS: Everyone says Rex Gunderson isn’t boyfriend material. Everyone says he isn’t serious enough. Everyone says heโ€™s a joke. Rumor has it, the disgraced ex-manager of the wrestling team left campus with his tail between his legs.

But now Rex is backโ€”nowhere near the douchebag he used to beโ€”and ready to prove everyone wrong.

The leopard has changed his spots, and heโ€™s about to become my dating coach.

REVIEW

This is a short story, originally published in the Team Player 2: A Sports Anthology, in September of 2019! We get glimpses of the obnoxious Rex in throughout the How to Date a Douchebag series, so I was super interested to see what Sara Ney would do with him. Hannah might be perfect for him. Haha! Their friendship was fun, and as usual, Sara Ney throws in some good laughs! This book just reminded me how much I loved this series and I’m happy we got to revisit this world.

Not According to Plan by A. M. Madden

Release Date: March 23, 2020

Publisher: Entangled Amara

SYNOPSIS: For one night of my life, I dared to do something reckless. My birthday. A bar. Karaoke. And a man so hot he could melt the sun. Sparks flew. Lust took over. For one night of my life, I felt alive. Then I was back to my โ€œboringโ€ life. Career-driven. Goal-oriented. Always planning ahead. But nothing could have prepared me for the positive pregnancy test. We werenโ€™t that reckless. There goes my โ€œboringโ€ life. And what happens when I tell the father?

REVIEW: I want to preface my review by saying that accidental pregnancy is one of my all time favorite tropes and that is why I picked this one up. It’s also been a while since I really disliked a book, but I found this plot to be over the top. I also sincerely disliked the male character, as he was always making decisions for the female lead. Personally, the ending was not a happy one for me either. The whole story just made me irritated and unhappy. I can say a lot more, but I don’t want to spoil it for anyone, because you may very well be intrigued by this one.

The Trade by Meghan Quinn

3.5 STARS

Release Date: March 12, 2020

SYNOPSIS: Can you pinpoint a time in your life where you realized you are completely and utterly screwed?

I can. I got the dreaded phone call, the one every baseball player hopes and prays never comes.

I was traded. Yeah, that phone call.

Traded from my long time team of over ten years. And not just to any team, but my childhood rivals; the Chicago Rebels.

Completely and utterly screwed, right? Wrong. The trade was the least of my concerns.

I met a girl. Natalie. Man, she’s perfect.

I swore I would never get involved with anyone during the season. Too complicated. But can you believe I have zero restraint when it comes to this girl? I couldn’t get her out of my head and the more I talked to her, the more I realized I needed her in my life.

So what’s the problem? Why am I screwed? Because, Natalie, the girl I can’t stop crushing on, yeah . . . she’s married.

At least, that’s what I was told . . .

REVIEW: Okay, so I thoroughly enjoyed the first part of this book! The misunderstanding and how the characters kept getting thrown together, add in a vacation and some force proximity with a loyal man and I was all in. I know that a lack of communication due to fear or nerves usually propels a story along, but this one just kind of rubbed me the wrong way. And when the big fight happened I was mad at both characters and didn’t like how it was all blamed on one. Despite all that, I really wanted to know what happened and it was interesting to read about the affects the whole situation had on Cory. The side characters, who are from previous books, also brought a lot to the story!

Love Hard by Nalini Singh

5 STARS!

Release Date: March 10, 2020

SYNOPSIS: Jacob Esera, star rugby player and young single father, has worked hard to create a joyous life for his six-year-old daughter. After the death of his childhood sweetheart soon after their daughterโ€™s birth, all Jake wants is safety and stability. No risks. No wild chances. And especially no Juliet Nelisi, former classmate, scandal magnet, and a woman who is a thorn in his side.

As a lonely teenager, Juliet embraced her bad-girl reputation as a shield against loneliness and rejection. Years later, having kicked a cheating sports-star ex to the curb, she has a prestigious job and loyal friendsโ€”and wants nothing to do with sportsmen. The last thing she expects is the fire that ignites between her and the stuffed-shirt golden boy who once loved her best friend.

Straitlaced Jacob Esera versus wild-at-heart Juliet Nelisi? Place your bets.

REVIEW

I loved this story. It was so emotional and everything I wanted. The connection both characters have goes way back, but not in a romantic way, which adds so much to the story. I love seeing their friendship and feelings grow. Juliet’s family life and first marriage were not the best and it has a big impact on how she interacts Jacob–who comes from an amazing family, but with a tragic first love story. I will definitely be reading all of the Nalini Singh books the involving Jacob Esera’s family (the Hard Play series and the Rock Kiss series).

REVIEW

I sincerely loved the first book in this series, War of Hearts! And now we have the second book in the True Immortality Series. If you love enemies-to-lovers and paranormal romance, this one is for you. It can even be read as a standalone! The overall story is very interesting and I’m excited to get to the next books. The premise of this series plays into why both books have similar plot lines, which also made this book not as enthralling as the first. It kind of felt the like reading the same book over again. Also, Fionn is super stubborn and intent on his revenge, which got a little old for me. All that being said, I still wanted to know what happened, and I’m still really looking forward to the next book! Especially since the first book was so damn good.

REVIEW

Nanny romance anyone? This was a cute addition to the Slice Series! First of all, anytime there is a single dad, you can sing me right up. Then there is the fact that I really enjoy Teagan Hunter’s books, and I was all in. There’s some great chemistry in this one, and I absolutely loved Kyrie (Porter’s daughter), she’s a little spitfire! Some laughs and lots of sexual tension. This was such a fun read!

Dear Ava by Isla Madden-Mills

4.5 STARS!

Release Date: February 3, 2020

SYNOPSIS: The rich and popular Sharks rule at prestigious, ivy-covered Camden Prep. Once upon a time, I wanted to be part of their worldโ€”until one of them destroyed me. The last thing I expected was an anonymous love letter from one of them. Please. I hate every one of those rich jerks for what they did to me. The question is, which Shark is my secret admirer: Knox, the scarred quarterback and their leader, Dane, his twin brother, or Chance, the ex who dumped me…

Dear Ava,

Your eyes are the color of the Caribbean Sea.</del> Thatโ€™s stupid.

What I really mean is, you look at me and I feel something REAL. Itโ€™s been ten months since you were here, but I canโ€™t forget you. Iโ€™ve missed seeing you walk down the hall. Iโ€™ve missed you cheering at my football games. Iโ€™ve missed the smell of your hair. The truth is, I wanted you back thenโ€”but you had him.And then everything fell apart that night.Donโ€™t hate me because Iโ€™m a Shark. I just want to make you mine.

Still.

REVIEW: I’ve read almost every single one of Ilsa Madden-Mills’ books, so I had a feeling I would like this one. TALK ABOUT DARK AND MESSY CHARACTERS. I freakin’ loved them. If you’ve ever read my reviews, you may notice I have a soft spot of characters that have endured some trauma in their past. Which means these two main characters were all up in the feels for me. It starts really dark, and stays that way for a while. Luckily, Ava is a fierce female lead. I loved her journey throughout this book and the male love interest is just so enticing. There are a couple dirty scenes in this one that really speak to the strong connection these two have. The angst, the back and forth, the tear-jerk moments all make this book an emotional rollercoaster and I loved it. The only reason I wouldn’t give a full 5 stars is a personal preference. The ending just wasn’t my kind of ending, but you’ll have to read to see how you feel about it. If you like dark romances, I think you’ll enjoy this one tremendously!

The Lying Season by K.A. Linde

5 STARS!

Release Date: February 4, 2020

SYNOPSIS: Walking away from Sam Rutherford was the hardest thing Iโ€™ve ever done. Itโ€™s been five years since that day, and Iโ€™ve given up on looking for love. My focus is on my career. And itโ€™s paid offโ€”Iโ€™m successfully managing the reelection for the mayor of New York City. Then Sam walks into my office as the new legal counsel. Which means I have to see him every single day from now until November. We vow to remain professional, but itโ€™s a small office. The sly glances and his blistering charm are unavoidable. It all feels so familiar. Too comfortable. After what happened the first timeโ€ฆI should know better. If Iโ€™m not careful, heโ€™ll break my heart all over again.

And I donโ€™t know if I can survive Sam a second time.

REVIEW: K. A. Linde was a new to me author, and I am so, so happy I found her. This book was exactly what I want in an adult romance. The author’s own experience on a campaign added so much to the storyline. It just felt real and there was so much emotion! The characters are so human. Gah. I could NOT put it down. If you like second chance romance, you need to read this one! AND I’m SO FREAKIN’ EXCITED for the sequel to this one. I just know it’s going to be as amazing as this one.
