Back in the Burbs by Avery Flynn & Tracy Wolff

Release Date: March 30, 2021

SYNOPSIS: Ever have one of those days where life just plain sucks? Welcome to my last three months–ever since I caught my can’t-be-soon-enough ex-husband cheating with his paralegal. I’m thirty-five years old, and I’ve lost my NYC apartment, my job, my money, and frankly, my dignity. But the final heartache in the suck sandwich of my life? My great-aunt Maggie died. The only family member who’s ever gotten me. Even after death, though, she’s helping me get back up. She’s willed me the keys to a house in the burbs, of all places, and dared me to grab life by the family jewels. Well, I’ve got the vise grips already in hand (my ex should take note) and I’m ready to fight for my life again. Too bad that bravado only lasts as long as it takes to drive into Huckleberry Hills. And see the house. There are forty-seven separate HOA violations, and I feel them all in my bones. Honestly, I’m surprised no one’s “accidentally” torched the house yet. I want to, and I’ve only been standing in front of it for five minutes. But then my hot, grumpy neighbor tells me to mow the lawn first and I’m just…done. Done with men too sexy for their own good and done with anyone telling me what to do. First rule of surviving the burbs? There is nothing that YouTube and a glass of wine can’t conquer.

Back in the Burbs is a hilarious enemies-to-lovers rom com!

REVIEW: Divorced, back at the parents, and in your thirties?! Yep, Mallory is on the hot mess express, and I loved every minute. I’m a huge Avery Flynn fan because she always makes me laugh out loud while reading, and this book was no exception. I enjoyed the journey Mallory went on after the bad hand life has dealt her. Cue Nick for all the swoony vibes. I wanted a little more romance, but if you like a story about a woman figuring it all out on her own, you’ll definitely like this one!

The Wedding Date Disaster by Avery Flynn

4.5 STARS!

Release Date: August 25, 2020

SYNOPSIS: Hadley Donavan can’t believe she has to go home to Nebraska for her sister’s wedding. She’s gonna need a wingman and a whole lot of vodka for this level of family interaction. At least her bestie agreed he’d man up and help. But then instead of her best friend, his evil twin strolls out of the airport. If you looked up doesn’t-deserve-to-be-that-confident, way-too-hot-for-his-own-good billionaire in the dictionary, you’d find a picture of Will Holt. He’s awful. Horrible. The worst―even if his butt looks phenomenal in those jeans. Ten times worse? Hadley’s buffer was supposed to be there to keep her away from the million and one family events. But Satan’s spawn just grins and signs them up for every. Single. Thing.

Fine. “Cutthroat” Scrabble? She’s in. She can’t wait to take this guy down a notch. But somewhere between Pictionary and the teasing glint in his eyes, their bickering starts to feel like more than just a game…

REVIEW: The emotion and comedy in Avery Flynn’s books, always have me picking them up as soon as I can get my hands on them, and this was no different. This was classic Avery Flynn, which means I laughed while loving every minute of this story. Will is an idiot. Yup, I said it. Don’t worry, he learns some lessons during this story that make him much more lovable! You’ll hear me say it in review, after review of books I enjoy, but the backstory of characters and how that impacts their actions can make or break a book for me. This book explores how past trauma impacts the characters’ current choices and assumptions they make in different situations. These two definitely have some family dynamics playing a big part in their lives, but I loved how the characters were confronted with the impact of their actions. And seriously, Hadley’s family is so much fun, I hope they appear somewhere else (maybe her sister and Will’s twin, perhaps?). We shall see! I definitely loved this one!

Books A Million:

Will. It’s good to have you here for this special occasion.”

“Thanks for having me, and please let me know what I can do to help.” The polite words came out almost as a reflex, because the answer was always no when it came to big events that were always catered and planned by professionals.

“Don’t suppose you can cook?” Sharon asked.

Considering she probably didn’t want her entire family slightly poisoned by undercooked chicken, there was only one answer he could give. “No, but I can wash dishes like you wouldn’t believe.”

“Good.” She gave him a real smile this time that had the corners of her eyes crinkling. “You’ve got a job.”

As everyone started to walk inside, Hadley pulled him back half a step. “Do you even know how to wash dishes?”

“I can load a dishwasher.” Occasionally he even did it. Usually, though, the cleaning crew took care of all that at his Harbor City penthouse.

“But have you ever actually done that?” She took a step closer, looking up at him with a knowing little smirk—the one that told him she knew just how full of shit he was. “Have you ever washed dishes by hand?”

“I’m not a complete spoiled jerk,” he said, sounding exactly like one even to his own ears.

She just lifted an eyebrow.

God, she was pushy—something that should have been annoying. Really, it was annoying. Completely. Utterly. Without a doubt. That was the only reason why he couldn’t drag his attention away from that smart mouth of hers because he couldn’t believe what words came out of it.

“Okay, fine.” He closed the distance between them, using the advantage of his height to look down at her. “No. I haven’t, but I’m sure I won’t have a problem excelling at it just like I do every- thing else.”

“Oh really?” she asked, not giving an inch. “I suppose you can also excel at all the ranching chores, like help check the fencing and gather eggs and muck the stalls, too.”

“Of course,” he said, his mouth running without his brain because all he could think about was how badly he wanted to kiss that knowing grin off her face right now. “By the end of the week, your relatives will be thinking of me like I’m just another cowboy in the family. They’re gonna love me.”

Hadley scoffed. “No. Fucking. Way.”

“Wanna bet?”

He had no idea why he was doing this. Proving

her wrong about his abilities to wash dishes or muck fences or mend stalls or be a beloved member of her family wasn’t on his agenda. He was here for one reason: to convince her to take her gold-digger hooks out of his brother. She was priming Web, softening him up for the taking. He’d seen it before—lived it—and the pattern was the same as what Mia had done to him. Start with friendship, add in some damsel-in-distress bullshit like her I-really-need-you-to-go-to-my-sister’s- wedding ploy, and then go in for the multimillion- dollar kill.

“So do we have a bet or not?” he asked.

“Bet on what?” she asked as she pantomimed pulling finger guns from a holster on each side of her round hips and shooting them into the air like a trick shot. “That you can become a rootin’ tootin’ city slicker cowboy much beloved by my family in a week? It’ll never happen.”

Oh, it was definitely happening now. Winning was his specialty. There was no way he’d lose to her. “If you lose, you leave my brother alone. If I lose—which isn’t going to happen—I’ll never mention you being a gold digger again, and I’ll get out from between you and my brother.”

Hadley released a dramatic sigh and pressed the back of her hand to her forehead. “Oh no, all my plans to marry a billionaire are in jeopardy.”

Such a smart-ass.

Meet Avery

USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling romance author Avery Flynn has three slightly-wild children, loves a hockey-addicted husband and is desperately hoping someone invents the coffee IV drip.
She fell in love with romance while reading Johanna Lindsey’s Mallory books. It wasn’t long before Avery had read through all the romance offerings at her local library. Needing a romance fix, she turned to Harlequin’s four books a month home delivery service to ease the withdrawal symptoms. That worked for a short time, but it wasn’t long before the local book stores’ staffs knew her by name. Avery was a reader before she was a writer and hopes to always be both. She loves to write about smartass alpha heroes who are as good with a quip as they are with their ahem other God-given talents. Her heroines are feisty, fierce and fantastic. Brainy and brave, these ladies know how to stand on their own two feet and knock the bad guys off theirs.

Loud Mouth by Avery Flynn

Release Date: June 22, 2020

SYNOPSIS: I never meant to say a word, not one single word. But I did. Now because of something I leaked—without even realizing it—I’ve inadvertently broken up one of the Ice Knights’ most legendary bromances. And worse—I’ve kicked hockey star Ian Petrov’s grumpy level to insane levels of grump.

And what could make it worse? How about the two of us being trapped together in a remote cabin after a massive blizzard. Neither of us can leave. Just us, the snow, his resentment, and OMG sexual tension so thick it would take a snowplow to break through it.

I’ve got to get out of here before I do something even dumber than I’ve already done and kiss the sexy with his misplaced anger and perfect pecs. That would be the worst, the absolute worst. But… would it be terrible if we gave in? Just a little? It’s not like we’re ever going to have to spend time together again.

Until the next morning when we’re told we have to play chummy for the press until this news cycle blows over.

REVIEW: THIS SERIES! Seriously, the first book, Parental Guidance, just blew my mind and made me laugh until I cried. It was one of my favorite books of 2019. Then came Awk-Weird and I knew this series was going to be one of my favorites. I was completely right.

Avery Flynn has done it again with Loud Mouth. The banter and humor of her writing are absolutely the best. She takes serious life events, then adds humor and emotion in a way that sucks me right in. I loved the broody, moody Ian with all his faults. I loved Shelby’s mix of strength and vulnerability. I loved the forced proximity of a cabin and fixing Ian’s imagine with his half-brother. There were multiple misunderstandings that hurt my heart, made me laugh, and just gave the story depth! The best part is I didn’t see it coming when the cabin time came to an end. Seriously, Avery Flynn manages to surprise me, break my heart, make me laugh, and then patch my heart back to new with a HEA. I loved this book and I hope you do too!

Gone Wild Series Review!

Five friends. One singles cruise. So many sexy shenanigans…

Release Date: March 24, 2020

Big thank you to Social Butterfly PR for the novellas in exchange for honest reviews!

Overall series rating —> 4.5 STARS

Review: Something I love about this series is that all of the characters seem to be a bit of a hot mess, or at the very least in a rut of some kind. They meet their person on a vacation, but we get to see what happens after the cruise is over. The connection between the novellas makes them even more fun to read!

#1 Kissing Kendall by Katee Robert

SYNOPSIS: All Kendall Barnes wants is a nice relaxing cruise to reconnect with her friends from college. Instead, they’re mistakenly booked on a singles’ cruise. Despite this series of unfortunate events, Kendall is determined to follow through on her original plan… At least until she meets a gorgeous stranger who might just be enough to tempt her into breaking all her rules.

Alex Jeffries is on his first vacation in over ten years, and he hates every second of it. He can’t stop thinking about what could be going wrong with the bar he owns back home, at least until he meets Kendall and forgets about everything but kissing her. Maybe a party cruise wasn’t the worst idea after all…

Kendall and Alex embark on a sexy fling, but it only takes a few days for the truth to sink in. The mind-blowing chemistry between them is only getting stronger, and despite the expiration date they both agreed on, they can’t help wondering if this vacation fling can go the distance…

Or are they destined to crash and burn when they come back to reality?

REVIEW: This one was STEAMY. The chemistry between Kendall and Alex is sizzling! I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Kendall come out of her shell. Alex’s choice in the end is definitely SWOON WORTHY.

#2 Gaming Grace by Piper J. Drake

SYNOPSIS: All work and no play is no way to enjoy this cruise.

Executive Director Grace Kim figures this reunion with her college friends is the perfect excuse to prove that she knows how to keep work/life balance and enjoy the Caribbean, preferably with her pants intact.

Rich, sexy, brilliant Bryan Wu has an app for that, and he charms Grace into helping him test it. He offers seven days of the best vacation of her life (bonus, sizzling chemistry) before they return to reality, but he didn’t anticipate just how much of his heart he’d give her.

When an accidental error results in a humiliating video of her online, Grace must salvage her career and decide whether to erase Bryan from her memory forever or admit they brought out the best in each other.

#3 Attracting Aubry by Avery Flynn

SYNOPSIS: I never dreamed I’d meet my celebrity crush while stealing every single pair of my best friend’s pants.

Trust me, my life is not that wild. In fact, the most excitement I usually get is running my fan-favorite Insta thirst account featuring butt-tastic pics of Hollywood superhero Carter Hayes. So, imagine my shock when, in the middle of the cruise ship hallway, I realize the guy whose shirt I’m stuffing slacks inside of is Carter disguised as a tourist. How I manage not to faint dead away, I’ve got no clue.

When word leaks that Carter might be on board, he asks me to help him maintain his cover. There’s no way I’m gonna say no to that. I just don’t share that I’m the anonymous woman behind the fan account that reported sighting him onboard. No biggie. Right?

However, when things between us go from friendly to hot to OMG-I-can’t-keep-my-clothes-on-around-him, all I can do is hope he never discovers my secret. You see, somewhere along the way, Carter went from an untouchable movie star to the man I’m falling for.

REVIEW: A celebrity undercover and a super fan. What could go wrong? This has Avery Flynn’s trademark humor and emotion. Aubrey is a total nut in the best way. When I saw the dilemma, I was just waiting for the secret to come out and the drama to happen. It most certainly did, but the resolution was so sweet.

#4 Beguiling Benjamin by Robin Covington

SYNOPSIS: All work and no play has made me a very dull and very horny boy. But now that I’ve secured my coveted tenure professorship in mathematics, I can concentrate on 1) getting a life; and 2) getting off. Not necessarily in that order.

A vacation with my best friends is the perfect way to kick off my new life. And the fact that our relaxing week on the beach is mistakenly booked as a raucous singles cruise seems like the perfect answer to problem number two.

Propositioning the assistant football coach from my university (and the number one player on my spankbank fantasy team) on the ship’s deck after three too many rum punches seems like a good idea at the time. One hotter-than-hell kiss and blow-my-mind orgasm later and the deal for a week-long fling is done and it is definitely the best idea I’ve ever had.

One cruise. Two guys. Seven nights. Zero strings. It sounds like the perfect equation to me… what could possibly go wrong?

REVIEW: I didn’t receive this ARC, so this one is on my TBR!

#5 Loving Liv by Stacey Kennedy

SYNOPSIS: Liv Sloane needs a vacation. After her cheating ex broke her heart–and their engagement–Liv never fully recovered. In fact, she’s spent the past two years avoiding romance at all costs… with the exception of that sizzling one-night stand she can’t seem to forget. So when her friends from college suggest a reunion cruise, Liv knows a relaxing week of sun, sand, and beach reads is exactly what she needs to clear her mind. But when they board the ship, Liv is hit with two surprises. Her friends accidentally booked a singles cruise, and her one-night stand is waiting on deck.

Miles Schantz has spent the past six months thinking about Liv. As a Dom at one of the hottest sex clubs in Las Vegas, Miles has his pick of women… so why can’t he get Liv out of his head? Six nights of wild fantasies, sexy games, and forbidden adventures. Six nights to show Liv that she belongs with him…

Awk-Weird by Avery Flynn

5 STARS!!!!

Release Date: October 14, 2019

Publisher: Entangled: Amara

There’s more to me than just being awk-weird. I own my own flower shop, have some great friends, and I have my eye on adopting the most adorable kitten. But sadly, hot guys don’t tend to be blown away by my trivia-spouting, dorky self.

So when a Thor-lookalike who happens to be a professional hockey player hits on me at my bestie’s wedding rehearsal party… You better believe I climbed that tree like a cat. And the fact that it happened not once, not twice, but three times? Yeah, that’s pretty much a once-in-a-lifetime experience for a woman like me.

There’s zero chance I’ll end up ever seeing him again… right?

Until the pregnancy test comes up positive. What happens next?

Oh my God, I wish I knew…

I fell in love Avery Flynn after reading Parental Guidance which is the first book in the Ice Knights series. She writes such a good story, plus she can make me laugh hysterically. This book was no different. Tess is such an endearing character, and that opening scene is absolutely amazing. I just was so excited to see what would happen throughout this whole story. Also, we get introduced to Cole in the previous book and his shit show of a relationship history, which made me so curious to how that was going to play into things. Let’s just say that both of these characters are flawed and wonderfully human. I am so excited to see where the rest of this series goes!
