Desperate Times by Emily Goodwin

Release Date: November 17, 2020

SYNOPSIS: I fell in love with Chloe Fisher when we were only kids. I knew then, just like I know now, there will never be another woman in the world for me but her. A silly childhood pact to marry each other if we were still single and thirty kept us together…until I messed up, hurting the only woman I’ve ever truly cared about. I swore if I ever got a second chance, I would make things right, prove to Chloe I’ve changed, that I’m not the same guy who broke her heart years ago. History has a way of repeating itself, and now that Chloe is finally giving me what I’ve always wanted, I’m terrified that maybe Chloe will always be the one that got away. That maybe, just maybe, she’s entirely too good for me. I’ve never been one to give up, and I’ll keep fighting for her—for us, even though the universe is doing its very best to keep us apart. It’s true what they say: desperate times call for desperate measures. And I’m willing to do whatever it takes to make her mine.

REVIEW: I think the thing that most stood out to me in the series was Sam and Chloe’s love for each other! They’ve definitely had a rocky road and I think it just pushes them in a way that makes them appreciate each other. I also think that Chloe deserves the happiness that she gets. I love that she took her nerdiness, that she got bullied for, and turned it into something so successful! It’s just a really feel good story. Sam‘s family is wonderful, and I can’t wait to see more of them in the next few books of the Silver Ridge series. I am totally getting Dawson Family vibes and I loved that series so very much!

Backup Plan by Emily Goodwin

Release Date: August 24, 2020

SYNOPSIS: When we were only kids, Sam Harris and I made a promise we’d marry each other if we were still single when we turned thirty. Well, my thirtieth birthday has come and gone and I’m still as single as ever. And as far as I know, so is Sam. But it’s been ages since we’ve seen each other, and after what he did to me our senior year of college, I wouldn’t put his ring on my finger even if he begged me to marry him. Never mind his devilish good looks. Or the fact that the playboy partier is a doctor now.

Nope, I’m sticking to my guns with this, and when I go back to my hometown of Silver Ridge for the first time in years, I won’t pay him the slightest bit of attention. Well…until he convinces me to go out for drinks to catch up. I knew it was a bad idea the moment I agreed to it. And then he brings up our childhood promise. It might be fun and games to him, but it’s not to me. Because as much a I don’t want to admit it, Sam has always been my first choice. And I don’t want to be nothing more than his backup plan.

REVIEW: This book reminded me a lot of Cheat Codes/End Game, the duet that began the Dawson Family Series. I also didn’t know it was a duet when I signed up to review (I’m not a huge fan of duets)–I found the pacing slow, but I think that’s my aversion to duets. I think I would have loved it more if I could have finished the whole duet in one go. I had mixed feelings about Cheat Codes/End Game (because it was a duet), but by reading it I was setup to love the Dawson Family and all the books that followed. And LOVE them I did, especially Dean’s story, which is where we meet Sam the lead in this book (Dean ends up with Sam’s sister Rory). And we get guest appearances from Dean and Rory in Backup Plan!

Chloe was a character I could get behind. She’s a nerd, successful, yet utterly human. I enjoyed seeing her struggles and strengths. Sam is sweet, but he can be utterly clueless. I loved the glimpse of them in high school and how kind Sam was. And once they finally saw each other again as adults, I was excited to see how it would go. I did see the cliffhanger coming, but I am here for it. I am really looking forward the the second book in this duet to see what happens!

Sam leans against the counter watching me. His gaze on me is intimate again,
and I can feel my resolve slipping away beneath my feet. “I know they’re in here
somewhere,” I mutter. “Dad never throws anything out.” I rustle through old pill
bottles. “Ah-ha!” Smiling, I grab what I was looking for.
“Are you sure you should be taking expired muscle relaxers?” Sam asks,
crossing his arms over his chest in a way that I so don’t notice his muscular
biceps bulging against the sleeves of his black t-shirt.
“Are you sure you should be telling me what to do?” I retort and struggle to
untwist the childproof lid.
“Well I’m a doctor, so when it comes to taking medication, yes. I should be
telling you what to do, and taking old medication isn’t smart.”
“Touché,” I say with a forced smile, eyes narrowing. The last thing I need is
Sam fucking Harris judging me. “It’s easy to forget you actually got accepted and
then graduated from medical school.”
Sam laughs and plows a hand through his thick brown locks, messing them up
in a way that looks way too fucking good on him. On anyone. His lips pull into a
half-smile and his eyes meet mine. “With honors,” he adds. “Don’t forget that I
graduated with honors.”
“Who’d you have to sleep with to get that?” I spit back, working hard to keep
my composure. I will not crumble…I will not crumble…
“Whoever I damn well wanted to,” he says with a shrug. “Though that had
nothing to do with my exceptionally good grades.” He parts his lips, tongue
darting out to wet them. He knows exactly what he’s doing, and I wonder if this is
a game to him, seeing how easily I’ll cave and fall back on our pact. He doesn’t
want the night to end in marriage, no way, but he wants to get what he couldn’t
Me, naked in his bed. And dammit, I really want that too.
“Let me,” he says, closing the distance between us, and cups his hands around
mine. It’s then I notice all over again just how grown up Sam has become. Where
once stood a boy stands a man, and he’s all man now. He was always athletic
before, but he’s filled out, thick with pounds of muscle. The boyish, playboy
charm still sparkles in his eyes, but it’s peppered with something that alludes to
experience, something that promises he knows his way around a woman’s body
and he never disappoints.

“These expired seven years ago.” He holds up the bottle. “If you’re that
desperate, let me prescribe something for you.”
I let out a breath and bring my hand to my shoulder, pressing my fingers into
my stiff muscle. It’s really not that bad; nothing a trip to a good massage therapist
wouldn’t cure. Yet there’s nowhere to get a decent massage in Silver Ridge,
evidence perhaps that I’ve grown too used to my cushy and very extra LA lifestyle.
“Or,” Sam goes on, deep voice like gravel as he sets the pills down on the
counter, “I could do this.” He takes a step back and brings his hands to my
shoulders, gently massaging them. His large hands are warm against my skin.
Deft fingers work right into the knot above my shoulders blade, and some of the
pain immediately leaves me, only to be replaced by a different kind of pain. It’s
not physical, and it’s rooted in a deep longing for something I’ll never have.

Rock Bottom by Emily Goodwin

Release Date: June 17, 2020

SYNOPSIS: Rory’s life is a mess. After getting dumped by her boyfriend, let go from her job, and losing her apartment, she takes a chance on a new job in a new town. Things can’t get any worse, right? Wrong.

When the foundation of Dean Dawson’s life crumbles to pieces at his feet, he swears off relationships of any kind and goes back to a life of bachelorhood, loving and leaving different women every night.

After dodging what could possibly be the world’s worst blind date, Rory finds herself face to face with Dean—a temptation she knows she should avoid. It’s just one night, and there’s no harm in having a little fun. Wrong again.

They say when you hit rock bottom the only way to go is up, but nothing is ever that simple.

Okay, Emily Goodwin satisfied a lot of readers by giving us Dean Dawson’s story! The Dawson Family series has been a lot of fun, but I really needed to know more about Dean and Kara’s relationship since Kara was so unlikable throughout the other books. Luckily, Emily gave us Rock Bottom and we finally got answers about the doomed relationship.

This book was so fun! The Dawson’s never disappoint. There are laughs and emotion and everything you could possibly want. Of course, Dean doesn’t want another relationship after everything he’s dealt with from his ex-wife. And of course, Rory decides to throw caution to the wind and try for a one-night stand. What happens after these two meeting is hilarious. I loved their journey and I absolutely love that Dean got his HEA!!! I recommend you go read this entire series ASAP!

Fight Dirty by Emily Goodwin

Release Date: June 27, 2019

Owen Dawson is one of Eastwood’s most eligible bachelors. He could have any woman he wants, but when it comes to settling down, he only has eyes for Charlie Williams, and he blew his chance with her years ago. While Owen is busy trying to convince everyone—and himself—that the playboy life is for him, Charlie is trying to put her life back together.

After discovering her fiancé was cheating on her, Charlie packs her bags, leaves her fancy New York job, and goes back to the one place she never thought she’d return to: home. Determined to start over and stay far, far away from men, the last thing Charlie needs in her life is her first love, Owen…and the old feelings that come rushing back the moment she lays eyes on him.

While Charlie swears to avoid romance of any kind, Owen is willing to do whatever it takes to prove he’s a changed man and win Charlie back…even if it means fighting dirty.

If you’ve seen my previous reviews for this series, then you know I’m completely invested in the Dawson family. And once again the Dawson Family unit is a character in and of itself that brings so much to the story. Their gatherings are full of chaos in the best way, I’d love to be apart of the mess. Readers get to see the charming and ridiculous antics of Owen in the first four books, and I was so looking forward to seeing him change his manwhore ways. The chemistry between Owen and Charlie is as hot as ever, and it made for one fun ride. His single-minded pursuit is just so appealing to me as a romance reader, but I also love how his confidence slips at times making him more realistic. I was just so happy at the end of this book, and I’d definitely recommend it!

Now my fellow Dawson family readers, have we started a petition for Dean’s divorce and new love story yet?! Why yes, that sounds like a horrible sentiment, but his wife has just kind of sucked in every book, and I just feel like Dean, being a Dawson, deserves so much more. Only time will tell if Emily Goodwin will give us all what we’re hoping for!

Book 4: Cheap Trick

Cheap Trick by Emily Goodwin

Release Date: May 16, 2019

SYNOPSIS: Danielle Cross has spent her whole life running from breakups and troubles. She’s never stayed in the same place for long…until now.

The moment she walks through the doors of Logan Dawson’s bar, there’s an attraction between them neither can deny.

And when Danielle needs a date to her sister’s wedding, Logan is the man for the job. A cheap trick to fool her family is a small price to pay for a weekend in paradise.

Playing pretend is easy. The hard part? Trying to convince yourself the feelings are only fake.

REVIEW: Okay, this was my first foray into Emily Goodwin romance books, and I’m so happy I finally read her work. I could not put this one down! I kind of love how Danielle feels so lost, and is really fighting to live an authentic life despite her family. The male lead is a super sexy twin with a damn heart of gold. I really LOVE when the guy just knows the woman is the one for him. BUT they’re just friends. So if you love a good friends to lovers romance read, you’re going to need to read this one. There is a ton of “COME ON ALREADY” mixed with “AWWWW” but be sure to be ready for the STEAMY scenes, because they are HOT!

If you’ve read my reviews before, you also know I’m a sucker for series that are stand-alones about family members. Well Logan is just one of the Dawson siblings, so of course I jumped right into the previous books! I finished Cheat Codes, and am halfway through End Game which is a duet about the only female Dawson. Let’s just say I’m loving these ones just as much! They’re all on kindle unlimited too!
