Slapshot by Rebecca Jenshak

Release Date: February 15, 2021

SYNOPSIS: I’m banished to Vermont for a scandal that wasn’t my fault, and broke because my famous father cut me off. And did I mention my roommate stole my boyfriend? Yeah, I’m loving my Moo U experience.  Now I need a job, because this gel manicure won’t upkeep itself. The only available option is the last one I’d ever want–a job as the hockey team’s equipment manager. My plan is to do the bare minimum, get paid, and find my way back into my father’s good graces.  I will not get involved with a hockey player, no matter how hot. They’re cocky. And obnoxious. I know their type, and I’m not willing to risk getting hurt again. Until Lex Vonne glides into my life looking like sin on a stick.
He thinks I’m a spoiled brat.
I think he’s using me to get ahead.
But the fire I feel when we’re together is like a slapshot to my heart…

This is book 2 in the new Moo U series that takes place
in Sarina Bowen’s True North World!

REVIEW: Wow, talk about a damaged character! Kaitlyn has so many things to work through and I wasn’t expecting her to be such a mess throughout the book. The first scene with her friend Vivian and Lex pissed me right off, but also got me totally invested in seeing what happened. I needed to know what happened. Lex is pretty endearing through the whole story and I appreciated his drive and dedication. I also thought Kaitlyn‘s dad was ridiculously clueless, but in a pretty realistic way. The drama is definitely real in this one with the way Kaitlyn starts her year at Moo U. She has to listen to her ex and her roommate getting busy in the next room. She’s ridiculously resistant to Lex. Even the way she handled her ex when things got rough. This whole book was not what I thought it was going to be, because it got really deep. I enjoyed how the story came together, how the characters figured stuff out, and the hilarious ending! I love this world and I love Rebecca Jenshak’s writing. Plus, I got a new book boyfriend with Lex!

Blindsided by Victoria Denault

Release Date: February 15, 2021

SYNOPSIS: What if Romeo wore hockey skates, and Juliet was raised on a farm next door?
As a life-long Vermonter, there are three beliefs I’ve always held true:
1. Our family farm is everything
2. Hockey is a close second
3. The Todds next door are our sworn enemies

But this season will test everything I stand for.  I have an illicit side job that could cost me my hockey scholarship. And now Maggie Todd knows my secret. She’s waiting for the right moment to use it against me. But every time I face off against her, I learn things I shouldn’t want to know. Like how deeply her competitive streak runs, and how sexy that is. And how easy it is to make her blush… everywhere. An Adler and a Todd cannot be lovers. Breaking that rule is like pulling a pin on a grenade–everything in my life could blow up. Can we surrender to these feelings… or will our families’ feud make us its next casualty?

This is book 1 in the new Moo U series that takes place
in Sarina Bowen’s True North World!

REVIEW: I first discovered Victoria Denault from her San Francisco Thunder Series which I sincerely loved. I’ve also read almost every Sarina Bowen book including the True North series, which is the world where this book takes place. Obviously when I saw that Victoria Denault was writing in this world, I knew I had to have it. Were my expectations super high for this one? Yes! Did I completely and utterly hype this book up in my head? Yes, again. Did this book meet all of those expectations and all the hype? You better believe it!

This enemies-to-lovers, Romeo and Juliet type story hit the spot. I loved every moment, from seeing Magnolia and Tate interact as enemies in the beginning, as well as falling for each other throughout the story. While falling, they’re also questioning the family feud that started before they were even born. There are so many layers to what’s going on, because it’s not just them and their relationship. It’s college, their families, and the success of their farms. This book touches on what the next generation can bring when the older generation is willing to work with them. It touches on some really valid biases that people in the older generation can carry and how that impacts progress. I really enjoyed seeing Magnolia and her sister Daisy work together to figure out what they could do to help the farm that wasn’t doing so well. Overall, I just really love this book. I’m really looking forward to seeing what the other authors do with the other hockey players that were Tate’s friends in this world!

Victoria Denault

Victoria’s love of books began at 12 when she picked up her first Sweet Valley High and grew from there. Her favorite childhood gift remains the 1930s typewriter her parents found at a garage sale which actually wasn’t a gift for her. It was meant to be a display piece in their front hall but Victoria snuck it into her bedroom and it was on that typewriter she first began pounding out her own stories.

When not writing books Victoria can usually be found on a beach somewhere. Her favorite beaches are La Concha in San Sebastian, Spain, Zuma Beach in Malibu California and Ocean Park, Maine.

A Co-Worker’s Crush By Piper Rayne

The final book
in the Rooftop Crew series!

Release Date: January 5, 2021

SYNOPSIS: Three tattoo guns. Five motorcycle tires. Countless T-shirts. That’s what I lost before I realized nothing good comes from dating my co-workers.  Usually, I don’t have much self-control. So, the fact that Frankie Grant is a hot, talented tattoo artist means it’s a damn miracle she hasn’t already been in my bed. But nothing can happen between us because Frankie comes with Jolie, her young daughter, and a crap load of baggage from her ex. And those are two things I never entertain. Anyone who knows me—the screwed up foster kid from the wrong side of the tracks—knows I’m not the guy you take home to meet your parents, let alone your kid. But I also know what it’s like not to have parents, so things get complicated when Jolie asks me to be her daddy. I might as well just slash my own tires now.

Review: What a perfect ending to the Rooftop Crew series. When readers first got a glimpse of Jax in the Rival Roomies, which happens to be one of my favorites, he almost stole the show from Rian and Dylan! I just knew his HEA was going to be a good story. It was really amazing to see him and Frankie during this one, especially because of the build up in previous books. There’s something really heartwarming about people that have been through really difficult times finding support and care from the people around them. The whole Rooftop Crew takes Frankie and Jolie in, just like they did with Jax when he first appeared on the scene. It’s just a really great group of friends that’s so supporting and loving. I think that is what makes this whole series! The whole crew is just so much fun–even when they mess up, they’re all trying to support each other and push each other in the best way.

One thing I really appreciated about this book specifically is that although both characters have definitely dealt with some trauma, and it’s impacted who they are as adults, there wasn’t a huge overdramatic scene. A lot of times in these types of books, I’m waiting for some huge ridiculous misunderstanding that is going to make me irritated, but that really didn’t happen with this one. It was the perfect amount of mistakes and growth for each character. They’re both just navigating what life has thrown at them, and when things happens towards the ends with Jax, it’s very realistic. The way he handles it all, I admired it, and that’s what makes me really happy. The lack of super-over-the-top drama is what made the story so much better it. It was just very true to the characters and how they’ve grown.

If you can’t tell I’ve absolutely love this series! I tend to love Piper Rayne books in general, but this series just got me! I think it’s just the support that the group offers each other that really won me over. I’m definitely looking forward to Piper Rayne’s Hockey Hotties series and I’m pretty sure we met one of the characters in this book–Frankie‘s cousin Aiden, but we shall see!

Forsaken Trail by Devney Perry

Release Date: December 29, 2020

SYNOPSIS: Aria Saint-James has planned the perfect getaway: sweatpants, takeout and two weeks alone with her sister and nephew. Nowhere on that list is wearing a low-cut dress and uncomfortable heels to attend a wedding where she knows neither the bride nor the groom. Toss in her nemesis, Brody Carmichael, and her road trip to Arizona is officially a bust. But at least there is champagne. She blames the bubbly for falling into bed with Brody that night. Enemy or no, the billionaire is irresistible in a tux. But after their one-night tryst, Aria has no choice but to cut her vacation short, returning home to escape his devilish smile, vowing never to see Brody again. Except Aria gets a surprise a few weeks later—she’s pregnant. When he learns that she’s carrying his child, Brody offers Aria the chance of a lifetime. The catch? She has to live under his roof until the baby is born. Either they’ll kill each other in nine months. Or discover love buried beneath their hate.

REVIEW: Well, I absolutely loved Aria and Brody. After getting a hint of their dislike for one another in Quarter Miles, I knew Devney Perry was going to give us a great enemies-to-lovers romance! We get this impression that Brody has grown up with everything, while Aria grew up with nothing. Yet Brody was also lacking something that’s so important during childhood. I think that’s what really made this story special to me. Aria and Brody come from such different places, but had fundamental needs not met during their childhood. They both endured trauma on very different levels and that impacted who they were as adults and how they handled the situations that were thrown at them. I think this is why Brody and Clara become such close friends, even when Aria doesn’t get it. He has more in common with them than Aria understands. The way Aria holds herself while playing Brody’s fake date in the beginning, had me falling in love her strength and snark. That scene was so damn satisfying. As the reader, I knew this was the first turning point, that moment where the two enemies realize there is more to the other person than what they thought. To me, that’s the best part of an enemies-to-lovers romance–that moment where the reader knows the characters are figuring out that maybe they don’t actually hate each other as much as they think. That just maybe, they don’t actually know the other person as well as they thought. When the story got messy, you still know that the characters were coming from a good place. Simply put, I just adored them and the journey they went on!

I’ve been curious about Clara and Aria’s story ever since we got introduced to them in this series. I needed to know what happened to them and how that brought them to the junkyard. Finally, I got some answers in this book, and it just adds more to the depth of all of these characters. I just love them so much. There is something about the way they grew up, what they’ve overcome, and how they’ve flourished despite all of the things they had to deal with. The fact that these experiences are still impacting them makes it that much more realistic. The way the negative things impact them, but they still carry on with life and carve out a world to fulfill their own needs. I feel like I have so much to say about this book, because of the overall series theme. All these women that grew up in a junkyard together finding their HEA?! How amazing is that. Every book is touching and has so much depth. I wildly rooting for these characters to overcome the obstacles and find the happiness that they deserve, yet did not get during childhood. They are survivors at their core, and I think that has made me so invested in each and everyone of these characters. I cannot cannot wait for Dotted Lines, when we finally meet Karson, the only guy that was in their group. The Cadillac will finally be back where it’s supposed to be, and I have a feeling that it’s going to be a real emotional ride for Clara.

REVIEW: I honestly cannot put into words what I felt about this book, it was that amazing. I’m an avid Ilsa Madden-Mills fan, but this one absolutely blew me away. I stayed up into the morning hours on a work night to finish it (I love sleep so damn much, so this is kind of a big of a deal. haha). I was so enraptured by these characters. I needed to know how they figured it all out. I needed to see them get the HEA I knew they deserved. Seriously, I was obsessed with them. Anastasia is just her own person and I love it. I wish I could be friends with her. And then there is River. River is at the top of my ever growing book boyfriend list, that’s for sure. The depth and layers there, damn.
