Release Date: July 27, 2021

SYNOPSIS: When Dillion Stitch left her hometown, she had no intention of going back. But when her brother gets into trouble, Dillion reluctantly agrees to return home to take her place at the family business. Being back in Pearl Lake after all these years feels familiar, but also brings a few surprises. She’s quick to notice that someone new has shown up at the cottage next door.  Dillion gets more than an eyeful when she goes to check out the newcomer and meets Donovan “Van” Firestone—her beloved neighbor’s grandson—in all his unclothed glory. Having gotten off to a rocky start, it’s not long before they begin bickering with each other all over town. All that back and forth inevitably sparks an undeniable attraction. But Dillion’s family has issues, Van’s family resents him, and neither Dillion nor Van feels truly at ease in the small town. For these Pearl Lake exiles, home isn’t just where the heart is—it’s where things get complicated.

Love Next Door, an all-new sweet and endearing romance from New York Times bestselling author Helena Hunting is now live!

REVIEW: This is a new small town romance from Helena Hunting. Dillon is back in Pearl Lake, not necessarily by choice and Donovan has his own reason for being there. What I love about small town romances is very real in this one. The towns people themselves are like a character, one that’s always in your business and usually adding to your issues, but also giving that sense of community. Dillon and Donovan were okay, but I appreciate their open communication and support of one another once they got past their rough start. Overall, this book is for the reader looking for a small town romance with a lot going on.

A Kiss for a Kiss by Helena Hunting

4 STARS

Release Date: May 27, 2021

SYNOPSIS: I’m Jake Masterson, single dad, and the General Manager of Seattle’s NHL team. I walked away from a career as a player so I could raise my daughter. For the last twenty-plus years, Queenie has been my main priority, but now she’s getting married. And there’s a small complication. A beautiful, sexy complication named Hanna.

She’s my son-in-law’s older sister. Or at least that’s how they were raised. The truth is a little more scandalous than that. I’ve been drawn to her from the moment I laid eyes on her. And I spent months trying to keep a lid on that attraction.  Until we finally give in. It starts with one searing kiss, but quickly ends with us between the sheets—and in the shower, and the hot tub, you get the picture—and turns into months of sneaking around. Here’s the problem: we live on opposite ends of the country. It can’t be anything but casual. And as I’ve already said…it’s complicated.  But when Hanna finds out she’s pregnant…suddenly things get real serious.

This is Book 4 in the All In Series!

REVIEW: I’ve have really loved this series! The fact that these standalones are interconnected adds to each story in the best way. Getting to meet characters before we get their stories always makes me more invested in them. After the last book, A Secret for a Secret, it was really neat to see King and Queenie play such a big part in this story. This one was definitely an emotional roller coaster. Hannah and Jake are just so interesting and the situation is just not what I was expecting. Hannah has had a really rough road. It was really interesting getting her full backstory after meeting her and finding out the shocking news about her in the previous book. These two together are so great in the beginning, but get some stuff thrown their way and it’s a damn experience for them. Overall, this was not quite what I was expecting, but it was definitely a good journey for the characters. This one, and Little Lies, are both heavy on the angst and I feel like that makes sense with her writing them during the pandemic. Something Helena hunting does a great job at is writing a group of people that become one big family, whether they’re related or not. I think the ending of this book made me so happy, because of all of the characters from the series show just what it means to be a family!

Little Lies by H. Hunting (aka Helena Hunting)

5 STARS!

Release Date: November 16, 2020

SYNOPSIS:
I don’t want you.
You mean nothing to me.
I never loved you.

I turned my words into swords.
And I cut her down. Shoved the blade in and watched her fall.
I said I’d never hurt her, and I did.
Years later, I’m faced with all the little lies, the untruths, the false realities, the damage I inflicted, when all I wanted was to indulge my obsession.
Lavender Waters is the princess in the tower. Even her name is the thing fairy tales are made of. I used to be the one who saved her.
Over and over again. But I don’t want to save her anymore. I just want to pretend the lies are still the truth.

Heroine: Lavender Waters (Alex and Violet Waters’ youngest daughter, PUCKED and FOREVER PUCKED couple origin, Pucked Series, you get a glimpse of her as a child in A Secret for a Secret )

Hero: Kodiak (Kody) Bowman (Rook and Lainey Bowman’s son, A LIE FOR A LIE couple origin, All In Series )

REVIEW: This was some major angst I didn’t know I needed! When I read about Lavender in A Secret for a Secret, and saw how Queenie interacts with her through art therapy, I knew I wanted to know more about her. It was really amazing to get her story that showed how her anxiety and mental health played out throughout her young life, but also once she became an adult (when this book takes place). One of the things I really liked about this book is that both Lavender and Kodiak struggle with mental health, but they have such a strong support system around them. Their parents, siblings, and cousins have their backs and accept them for who they are. I also enjoyed the fact that they talk about toxic relationships, and that there is a difference between support from another person and using another person as a solution. Needless to say, both of these characters were amazing, although not right from the start–Kodiak had some growth to do and I really disliked him in the beginning. Luckily, the second half of the book gave me so much more than I was expecting. I was completely invested in them as a couple, their growth, and their happiness.

What might have been the cherry on top, is that we get guest appearances from Alex and Violet, as well as the other Pucked series and All In series characters as parents! Seeing all of their children is just so much fun after reading the books about the parents. I think it’s really neat to hear about how their children ended up and what paths they are pursuing. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Helena Hunting decides to explore some of the other children’s stories, because I think there is some great material there.

A Secret for a Secret by Helena Hunting

5 STARS

Release Date: May 12, 2020

Publisher: Montlake

SYNOPSIS: My name is Ryan Kingston, and I’m a rule follower. I’ve never been in a fistfight. I always obey the speed limit. I don’t get drunk, and I definitely don’t pick up random women at bars. Except the night I found out that my whole existence has been a lie. I got drunk. And picked up a stranger. Her name was Queenie, and she was everything I’m not: reckless, impulsive, and chaotic. We did shots and traded secrets. And ended up naked at my place. She left me a thank-you note in the morning and her panties as a parting gift. But no way to contact her. Six weeks later I’m sitting in the first official team meeting of the season, and there she is. I neglected to mention that I’m the goalie for Seattle’s NHL team. And Queenie? Turns out she’s the general manager’s daughter.

REVIEW

Seriously, I am loving this series. The little bit we see of King in A Favor for a Favor had me super interested in what his story would be like. The milk, the khakis, and all the manners. The is the ultimate opposites attract and it was great! Getting to know these characters was super fun. King, well he is definitely book boyfriend material, even though I don’t know how I could handle letting him drive (you’ll see). And Queenie? She is a hot mess, but for a lot of valid reasons. The story touches on the impact of keeping secrets out of embarrassment, which is just such a real topic. It’s something many of us has done, and the majority of the time it doesn’t make things better. The support and caring we see as events happen in this book is super heartwarming. I just loved it and I’m hoping we’re going to get more from the All in Series!

A Favor for a Favor by Helena Hunting

SYNOPSIS: When I joined Seattle’s NHL expansion team, I thought it was the start of something great. But nothing ever goes the way you expect. Take my introduction to my new neighbor. She came rolling in on the hot mess express at midnight, making a racket while she tried to get into my team captain’s apartment. Did I mention that he’s married to a woman who definitely was not her?

Imagine my surprise when I end up with an injury that has me out of the game for weeks, and she’s the one to offer to help me. I should probably add that she’s not the captain’s mistress. She’s his sexy, pastel-haired younger sister.

So we come up with an arrangement: she rehabs me so that I can get back on the ice sooner, and she can add a professional athlete that isn’t her brother to her client list. Seems simple enough. As long as I can keep my hands to myself and my hormones in check.

REVIEW: The start of the book is hilarious and horrible at the same time. Hilarious, because you know both sides of the story, horrible because Bishop is so, so wrong. I loved every moment of it. He is one surly, delicious, hockey player. The family element in this book was amazing. I love how the interactions between both of the main characters and their siblings play such a big role in how the story progresses. Helena Hunting does a wonderful job with hockey player stories by really fleshing out the individual men and usually pitting them against strong wonderful women. I would definitely recommend this book!
