5 STARS!

Release Date: November 16, 2020

SYNOPSIS:
I don’t want you.
You mean nothing to me.
I never loved you.

I turned my words into swords.
And I cut her down. Shoved the blade in and watched her fall.
I said I’d never hurt her, and I did.
Years later, I’m faced with all the little lies, the untruths, the false realities, the damage I inflicted, when all I wanted was to indulge my obsession.
Lavender Waters is the princess in the tower. Even her name is the thing fairy tales are made of. I used to be the one who saved her.
Over and over again. But I don’t want to save her anymore. I just want to pretend the lies are still the truth.

Heroine: Lavender Waters (Alex and Violet Waters’ youngest daughter, PUCKED and FOREVER PUCKED couple origin, Pucked Series, you get a glimpse of her as a child in A Secret for a Secret )

Hero: Kodiak (Kody) Bowman (Rook and Lainey Bowman’s son, A LIE FOR A LIE couple origin, All In Series )

REVIEW: This was some major angst I didn’t know I needed! When I read about Lavender in A Secret for a Secret, and saw how Queenie interacts with her through art therapy, I knew I wanted to know more about her. It was really amazing to get her story that showed how her anxiety and mental health played out throughout her young life, but also once she became an adult (when this book takes place). One of the things I really liked about this book is that both Lavender and Kodiak struggle with mental health, but they have such a strong support system around them. Their parents, siblings, and cousins have their backs and accept them for who they are. I also enjoyed the fact that they talk about toxic relationships, and that there is a difference between support from another person and using another person as a solution. Needless to say, both of these characters were amazing, although not right from the start–Kodiak had some growth to do and I really disliked him in the beginning. Luckily, the second half of the book gave me so much more than I was expecting. I was completely invested in them as a couple, their growth, and their happiness.

What might have been the cherry on top, is that we get guest appearances from Alex and Violet, as well as the other Pucked series and All In series characters as parents! Seeing all of their children is just so much fun after reading the books about the parents. I think it’s really neat to hear about how their children ended up and what paths they are pursuing. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Helena Hunting decides to explore some of the other children’s stories, because I think there is some great material there.

The Teaching Hours by Sara Ney

4 STARS!

Release Date: May 5, 2020

SYNOPSIS: Everyone says Rex Gunderson isn’t boyfriend material. Everyone says he isn’t serious enough. Everyone says he’s a joke. Rumor has it, the disgraced ex-manager of the wrestling team left campus with his tail between his legs.

But now Rex is back—nowhere near the douchebag he used to be—and ready to prove everyone wrong.

The leopard has changed his spots, and he’s about to become my dating coach.

REVIEW

This is a short story, originally published in the Team Player 2: A Sports Anthology, in September of 2019! We get glimpses of the obnoxious Rex in throughout the How to Date a Douchebag series, so I was super interested to see what Sara Ney would do with him. Hannah might be perfect for him. Haha! Their friendship was fun, and as usual, Sara Ney throws in some good laughs! This book just reminded me how much I loved this series and I’m happy we got to revisit this world.

REVIEW

First things first, THIS COVER. I am here for the sexy black man on the cover. I see so many white boys, and don’t get me wrong I like them, but it’s nice to have some other representation! I’m in LOVE with this cover.

Next, let’s just talk about the Smart Jocks series in general. It is now one of my favorites! There is just such a depth to the characters, and I loved every moment of seeing them all get their HEA’s. So we meet Gabby and Zeke in the first book of the series, and I just wanted to know more about both of them. Zeke is the strong silent mysterious type that is beyond intriguing! Gabby was dealt a crazy hand right before she was supposed to leave for college. Seeing these two keep getting pushed together and tell themselves they weren’t going to fall for each other was so entertaining. I seriously loved their journey and I was so much more invested in them from meeting them in previous books. I that they both have a lot of learning and growing going on. Seriously, this one just gets you in the feels some times. I highly recommend this book, as well as the rest of the series!! Seriously, go read it NOW.

SYNOPSIS

This college jock is a total player. He’s used to getting who and what he wants. Until her. . .

Katrina
The hottest guy on campus won’t stop asking me out. I know that sounds like a good problem to have, but this guy… this guy has no idea how complicated my life is trying to juggle being a single mom and college student. Every Thursday, he shows up at the café where I work. His cheesy pickup lines and arrogance should have me completely annoyed. I’m not. I can’t say yes, but Thursday is my favorite day of the week.

Joel
The hottest girl on campus won’t go out with me. I know, I know, that sounds presumptuous, but this girl… this girl has gotten under my skin, and I can’t seem to walk away. Every Thursday, I show up at the café where she works. She’s fed me every excuse in the book. I should give up and bang one of the many girls blowing up my phone. I’m not. Even when she says no, Thursday is my favorite day of the week.

REVIEW

After reading book one of this series, The Assist, I had to jump right into book two. Let’s talk about how Rebecca Jenshak threw in every trope I love: taming the bad boy, single parent romance, college sports, I mean it’s like this book was made for me! I loved that I’d already met the leads in book one, but I was totally invested in the well-being of Katrina, her son, and Joel.

JOEL MORENO! I knew his story was going to be good, but once I found out he’d be turned down by single mom Katrina, it was on. Joel’s single-minded pursuit of Katrina is so much fun. Seriously, this book had me smiling for the majority of the time. Of course there is some drama, as is life, but this story pulled all my heart strings in the best way.

Now I’m just counting down the days until The Tip-Off!

YES WE ARE GETTING Z AND GABBY’S STORY!!

SYNOPSIS

You know those stories where the smart girl tutors the dumb jock? This isn’t it.

Blair
What’s the probability of insulting the one guy on campus I need to help me pass statistics? If I knew, I wouldn’t be standing in front of Wes Reynolds begging him to tutor me.

Basketball player, sexy, arrogant, always sleeping through class… these are the things I knew about him. What I didn’t know is that he is a seriously smart jock.

Wes
What’s the best way to get rid of the peppy and unrelenting girl that keeps asking me to tutor her? If I knew, I wouldn’t be staring at her tan legs and attempting to teach her statistics.

Sorority girl, fine as f**k, determined, ball buster… these are the things I knew about her. What I didn’t know is that she is all the things I didn’t realize I wanted or needed.

Or that one semester with her would change everything.

REVIEW

I am an absolute sucker for New Adult and College Sports Romance series, so I’m very happy I found this one! Let me just say, there is something so real about this this story. Wes’ journey with basketball and life in general is just so relatable for people trying to find their place. Blair’s tenacity is hilarious, but also just pulls you into the story. The development of friendship between these two kept me enthralled to the very end.

Another thing that really added to this story were the side characters! Blair and Gabby’s friendship is something I want more of! Her friend Vanessa and Mario’s budding relationship. And then there are Wes’ friends, who I absolutely love. Z is this basketball god, but he’s so quiet and mysterious, and I can’t wait to find out more about him. Joel Moreno is always the life of the party, but you just know there is more to his story–which we luckily get in book two: The Fadeaway!
