The Cabin by Jasinda Wilder

Release Date: October 23, 2020

SYNOPSIS: One year ago, I buried my husband.
One year ago, I held his hand and said goodbye.
Now I spend most of my days lost somewhere between trying to remember every smallest detail of our lives, and trying to forget it all. I fill my hours with work until I’m too exhausted to remember him, to feel anything at all.
One year, 365 days—and then one knock at my door changes everything. A letter from him, a last request, a secret will:

My dearest Nadia,
Trust me, my love. One last time, trust me. Sometimes the epilogue to one story is the beginning of another.

REVIEW: I’m always a little weary about books where are you get to know a couple and one of them is going to pass away. I can’t help but think of how I’m going to be invested in that couple, but then have to be invested in a new couple. This made me unsure about the setup of this story, but I sincerely ended up appreciating that the reader gets a lot more insight into Nadia’s relationship with her husband that passed away. It’s not just the aftermath of being a widow, we get the actual story of both relationships. Readers get to see the process of her grieving, which I think adds a lot to the point when she finally starts to move on. Jasinda Wilder did a wonderful job of weaving a story throughout both relationships that really made you appreciate everything that each character went through. This is definitely a tearjerker and hit me right in the feels! I think what’s really amazing is Nathan‘s acceptance and understanding–which stems from his own experiences. He’s also just an understanding man, and I really appreciated him as a male lead. Talk about book boyfriends. This story surprised me, made me cry, made me laugh, and seriously warmed my soul. I would definitely recommend it!

Torn Apart by K. Webster & Nikki Ash

Release Date: October 20, 2020

SYNOPSIS: I’ve spent the past three years in college terrorizing the dean, also known as my father.
I’m everything he hates.

But I’m only getting started.
I’m about to make Dad really proud with my newest life choices… I fall for my best friend, Mia, who’s a freaking chick. I’m dying to make out with my enemy, dude bro Brayden. And best of all, I want to bone my new roomie, Drew, who happens to also be the school’s new hockey coach. Senior year’s great. I’m still the world’s worst human. I’ve made all the wrong decisions, and when Dad gets wind of my newest mess, he might actually disown me this time. But I can’t stop. I don’t want to stop. In typical Ashton Carter fashion, I wreck my life in the worst possible way. It isn’t until it’s all torn apart, I realize I have a problem. Me.

REVIEW: Holy crap. I don’t know where to even begin about this messy, amazing story that has left me in a tangled web of feelings and emotions. These are some very confused people that all care about each other, yet are having so much difficulty figuring it out. Something I do really appreciate is Drew’s outlook:

“But then reality hit. I reminded myself I was gay.”
“So you’re a labels guy then, huh?” I frown at him.
“The kind of guy who sticks everyone into a category. Mia: best friend and a girl. Brayden: asshole jock. Me: dad’s live-in spy.” He smirks at me. “You: openly gay, sarcastic little shit.”
My lips curl into a wicked grin. “You forgot to add hot for me.”
“And hot,” he indulges, making the hairs on my arms stand on end. “Sound about right?”

This brings up something that I believe people in our society get really stuck on. Labeling people. It’s like we feel most comfortable putting people in their correct boxes, but the truth is we are all messy. We all move in and out of different boxes throughout our life depending on our experiences–who we meet and who are around. This book demonstrates this very well in the sense that the characters can have a lot of different feelings and care for different people in really different ways. Of course as a Romance book, it’s a little more dramatic and things happen a lot quicker than they may in real life. Both authors did a really great job of bringing the story together in a way that was entertaining and sucked me in. I was completely invested in all of the characters being happy. I have some feelings of who belongs with who, but we’ll see what they do with book two of this duet. I seriously cannot wait to read Bound Together on November 17th!

Until Talon by Aurora Rose Reynolds

Release Date: August 4, 2020

SYNOPSIS: When Mia Allenton’s sister calls, asking her for help after finding out her husband cheated, Mia packs up her life in Montana and moves to Tennessee to be there for her and her three girls. As Mia begins to settle in, a tornado comes through, bringing along with it Talon Mayson, a man determined to prove to her that good men do exist.

Talon knows he’s got his work cut out for him when it comes to earning Mia’s trust, but slowly her walls start to crumble, and they begin to build something beautiful. Unfortunately, someone from Talon’s past isn’t happy about him being back in Tennessee, and they’re willing to do anything to prevent him from ever being happy.

Is the Boom between Talon and Mia strong enough to weather the storm that’s coming?

REVIEW: This was my first book by Aurora Rose Reynolds and it was such a pleasant surprise! In Talon’s family their insta-love burns bright, but is also accompanied by lots of drama, and I AM HERE FOR IT. I love how he’s just all about Mia from the moment they meet! Plus, Mia is pretty lovable with everything she’s doing for her sister. This is hit the spot for the romantic suspense binge I’ve been on lately and I’m so glad I picked it up.

Since I hadn’t read previous books in this series, I went ahead and started back with Unly July. It was interesting to see the writer growth between the two stories, and I’m looking forward to seeing the progression over the whole series as I binge the backlist! Also, I’m going to need Aurora Rose Reynolds to give me the Mia’s sister’s story ASAP, because everything we get in this book about her romantic life made me totally invested in her getting her own HEA!

A Cowboy for Keeps by Laura Drake

Release Date: July 28, 2020

SYNOPSIS: There’s not much that could rattle a cowboy like Reese St. James. But when his twin brother dies in a car accident, Reese is stunned to discover he has a six-month old niece, Sawyer. Wanting to make up for lost time, Reese heads down to Unforgiven, New Mexico, to bring her home. He doesn’t plan on Sawyer’s guardian giving him any trouble, but the intriguing, independent woman is turning out to be more than he bargained for.

Lorelei West had given up hope of having a family of her own until her sister’s tragic death brought little Sawyer into her life. And now there’s no way she’s going to let Reese take her away. Lorelei knows hotshot, good-looking cowboys like him — she’s dated enough of them — and she intends to stand her ground. Yet the more time Reese and Lorelei spend together, the harder it is to deny the attraction building between them. But opening their hearts to a baby is one thing — can they also open their hearts to the possibility of a happily-ever-after?

REVIEW: New book boyfriend alert! Reese’s insecurities gave him a soft side that pulled me right in. His interactions with his niece, Sawyer, tugged at all my heartstrings! And then there is the way that Reese pursues Lorelei. Swoon. Seriously, I loved all the moments of their interactions. Lorelei’s insecurities definitely rule her life, to a point I wanted to yell at her at times. Because of this, I enjoyed seeing her growth throughout the story. I think both of their love for Sawyer despite the complicated relationships they had with their siblings, was just so wonderful. This is just a heartwarming story and I would definitely recommend it!!

Hate Thy Neighbor by S.M. Soto

Release Date: July 27, 2020

SYNOPSIS: Fresh out of a failed engagement, Olivia Hales is in dire need of a fresh start. Tired of being the charming and accommodating girl that always gets stomped on, she’s determined to change her outlook on life. When she finds her dream job in a small town in California, she thinks she’s finally found her place in life. That is, until she meets her new neighbor.

Roman Banks. Moody. Foul-mouthed. Jerk. And the hottest man on the planet.

At a sprawling six foot five, he was coldly distant and physically intimidating. Not only was her new neighbor a God that was good with his hands, he was also a grade-A jerk. Trapped on the same street, sharing the same space together, they’ve become entrenched in an addictive, ridiculous, never-ending game of insults and pranks that result in the destruction of two perfectly good homes.

The tension between them is as thick as the walls of their houses are thin. Roman’s touch burned like fire even when his words were ice, and both of them will stop at nothing to make the others life hell.

In the midst of the pranks and the hate they harbor for each other, Olivia slowly pulls back the layers of the man next door and finds herself consumed with wanting to fix him and his past. When both enemies start to catch feelings for each other, Olivia finds herself hiding her own secrets, not wanting to lose another man in her life.

Lines are drawn. Strict rules put into place. But that doesn’t stop Olivia from wanting to save the quiet, broody man next door.

They say you’re supposed to love thy neighbor, but that was the furthest emotion she felt when thinking about Roman. Hate was all there was to their relationship. At the very least, that’s what she tried to tell herself.

Hate Thy Neighbor is a full length enemies to lovers standalone.

REVIEW: First, let’s start with this adorable cover–seriously I am in love. Also, the chapter pages are adorable too! This was my first book by this author and I’m happy I picked it up. There are so many layers to this story that I was not expecting. While I love the enemies to lovers romances, there has to be some really good reasons when the guy is a total jerk to the leading lady. Luckily, Roman has a past and some current goals that explain why he is the way he is. I’ve got to admit, Roman Banks is my favorite kind of hero–broody with a heart of gold. His relationship with Ryder gave me all the heart eyes. Harper is just so complex, she’s kind and strong, yet sometimes too kind which becomes a weakness. I sincerely love her as a lead. I did feel that this book was a little too long, but that is really just a personal preference. I was impatient to find out why Roman was the way he was, then wanted to get to the bottom of the suspense part, and then there’s another thing I needed to know more about that was hinted at, but took forever to actually come out. Needless to say, that is just my impatience that made it irritating, the book itself was a layered journey and I’m glad I picked this one up!

Only With You by Lea Coll

Release Date: June 30, 2020

SYNOPSIS: Hadley – First I turned down a marriage proposal, then I moved to Annapolis to open a law firm. I thought my world couldn’t change any more…
Until Cade stepped into my office, smelling of sawdust with his company’s T-shirt stretched taut over his chest and biceps. Everything about him was sexy-as-sin and completely off-limits. But I can’t risk the business I sunk my savings into by dating a client, and he won’t risk his heart. The more we spend time together, the more I want him. Even if a relationship between us was possible, how can he give me all of him?

Cade – After my wife died, I swore off dating. I threw myself into my charity instead. It was easy at first, but I can’t ignore my attraction anymore. Hadley comes from a wealthy family that operates with manipulation, lies, and deceit. I don’t fit into her world, but the closer we get, the more I wanted to show her how things could be different. I never thought I’d meet someone who gave me hope for a future. One full of possibilities, love, and maybe even marriage and kids. But how can I promise her forever when I know love doesn’t last?

REVIEW: The main thing I enjoyed while reading this book was watching Hadley growth and Cade’s healing. I was definitely invested in their individual characters and wanted them to have a HEA! The buildup for the deep connection they had didn’t really click for me, but I still enjoyed them coming together and was very happy with the ending. Many of the side characters were really intriguing, and I wouldn’t mind getting Hadley’s firm partners’ and brother’s stories! I think people will enjoy this one!

The Player Next Door by K.A. Tucker

3.5 STARS!

Release Date: June 16, 2020

SYNOPSIS: Scarlet Reed has returned to Polson Falls, convinced that twelve years away is long enough to shed her humiliating childhood identity as the town harlot’s daughter. With a teaching job secured and an adorable fixer-upper to call home, things in her life are finally looking up. That is, until she finds out that Shane Beckett lives next door.

Shane Beckett, the handsome and charismatic high school star quarterback who smashed her heart. The lying, cheating player who was supposed to be long gone, living the pro football dream and fooling women into thinking he’s Prince Charming. Shane Beckett, who is as attractive as ever and flashing his dimples at her as if he has done no wrong.

Scarlet makes it abundantly clear that old wounds have not been forgotten. Neighbors they may be, but friends they most certainly are not. She won’t allow herself to fall for the single father and firefighter again, no matter how many apologies he offers, how many times he rushes to her aid, or how hard he makes her heart pound. But as she spends more time with him, she begins to fear that maybe she’s wrong. Maybe Shane has changed. And maybe this time she’s the one playing herself—out of a chance at true happiness.

REVIEW: This was my first book by this author, which I snatched up since I’ve heard nothing but good things about K.A. Tucker! I enjoyed it. All of the different characters were fascinating during the interactions, and I was curious about how Shane Beckett was going to redeem himself, because he actually did mess up royally when they were younger. He had his reasons, but for my personal preferences they were crappy and he handled it poorly. That being said, he was a teenager, and I think that’s the point of this book. To highlight that some people do grow up and regret/learn from mistakes they made in their youth. I kind of felt like the ending was a little anti-climactic and that the antagonist’s change was a little too drastic. Overall though, I enjoyed this one, and I will definitely be checking out this author’s backlist!

Experimental Marine Biology by Susannah Nix

Release Date: June 15, 2020

SYNOPSIS: “Just friends” is all Brooke and Dylan have ever been. (Except for that one night in high school, but they don’t talk about that.) Growing up, he was her protector. Her confidant. The one guy she could always trust. Now she’s a marine biologist working toward her PhD in California, and he’s an underwear model in New York. Despite the distance and their wildly divergent career paths, they’ve managed to stay friends.

Dylan’s only in town for a few days, crashing on Brooke’s couch and repaying the favor by acting as her date to a friend’s wedding. It was totally an accident she saw him naked. Pretty soon, the “just friends” thing goes out the window, and they find themselves giving friends with benefits a shot.

It’s all going great…until it isn’t.

Dylan’s got a ticket back to New York at the end of the week, and Brooke may have accidentally broken his heart. Can they navigate these uncharted relationship waters? Or has she wrecked her oldest friendship?

REVIEW: This was my first book from this author, but I’ve been curious about this series for a while! This story was cute and quick. I enjoyed the very real issues that Dylan and Brooke went through and their journey from friends to lovers to more. Both characters have some hold ups despite each having some really great qualities. Luckily, it just felt like they were meant to be as they interacted. Brooke’s whale decorations were cute and good for a laugh too.

Also, if you’re looking for a book without explicit details during the sexy times, this one might be for you!

Reckless Memories by Cathrine Cowels

Release Date: May 12, 2020

SYNOPSIS: I loved him before I knew what the word meant. From skinned knees to first dates and everything in between. But he was never mine to love. I settled for friendship, even though I always wanted more.

That was before. Before he ripped my world apart and didn’t bother sticking around to help me pick up the pieces. I knit every last shred back together all on my own. And I’ve all but forgotten his name.

Now, he’s back, and everything is torn apart once more. But he’s not the only one doing the tearing this time. And there might be no stopping the person who has it out for us both.

Wow. Talk about emotional. I sincerely enjoyed every moment of this book. This is a new-to-me author that I have been wanting to read for a while. The journey the main characters go through together and apart is heart-wrenching and yet so wonderful. There were so many elements that just pulled me right in and I could not put the book down. I don’t want to spoil anything, but Ford and Bell’s bond from the very beginning is what dreams are made of. And Bell! She is just so strong and caring, I love everything about her! This book touches on the realities of life and growth we experience that can make us realize we didn’t know as much as we thought we did as kids. I always feel that small towns are their own character in books like these. The people in them push the story along, whether in a good or bad way. And this small town was no different. I had a feeling of who the bad guy was, and I turned out to be right, but I sincerely enjoyed getting the missing details at the end that brought it all together. I would definitely recommend this one and I’m looking forward to the rest of the series! And I may just have to check out this author’s backlist asap!
