Love You Like That by Scarlett Cole

ALL THE DAMN STARS

Release Date: May 17, 2022

SYNOPSIS: Zoe Atkins wanted exactly one thing. To be the world’s greatest percussionist. Instead, she’s on a tour bus engaged in a stupid bet with rock star, Alex King, trying to fill the hole left behind when her dream gave up on her. The prickly former percussionist wasn’t supposed to steal his heart. With her distrust of lipstick and love of men’s pyjamas, she was everything playboy, Alex, didn’t want in a lover. At least, that’s what he thought when he bet her he could find her a hook up during their tour. Until he’s forced to watch the woman he’s come to desire leave the bar with her perfect guy, taking a piece of his already bruised and battered heart with her. Now it’s up to the Sad Fridays’ rocker to use his passionate powers of persuasion to convince Zoe he’s more than her wingman. He’s her everything.

REVIEW: I knew Alex‘s book had the potential to be my favorite, because Alex has been one of the most interesting characters throughout the series. He has shown emotionally intelligence and caring every single time he’s interacted with the main characters of the first three books. I wanted to know more about him and have been counting the days until we got his story. The wait was absolutely worth it.

I am in love with Alex and Zoe. Both of them have these aspects of their lives that are painful, traumatic, and heart wrenching to read about, yet they are both such awesome caring characters. And the things that make them “difficult” in others’ eyes are what make them perfect for one another.

It’s almost hard for me to write this review, because this book hit me so deep. I have so many amazing feelings about it that I don’t even know where to start. This whole series has been great and pulled at my heartstrings so much. The characters have gone through so many challenges, and readers get to see them work through everything that has happened them, see the impact it has on their relationships with each other and with their significant others. I think what I like about the series is it’s so freaking real. There are these difficult times that they grow through that are just so magical. The connections, the feelings, and the support of everyone in these books is just so fantastic. While I personally can identify with some of the things that Alex is going through, I can only imagine what Zoe is going through. Losing your hearing when being a musician is vital to who you are must be an absolute nightmare. Something I appreciated was seeing the people around her think they were helping/supporting her, but Alex being helpful and supportive in a way that actually worked. It was such a good example of not putting your beliefs and solutions onto another person, and I think that’s what made it even better. Alex has shown his emotional intelligence throughout the whole series when he has given advice or helped handle situations in the previous books, so I knew that he was going to being that into his own story. He has his own insecurities and hangups, but he takes the time to pause and reflect and really deal with what’s going on in the moment. It is just so refreshing to see all of it play out. The relationship that Alex and Zoe have is absolute relationship goals!

Honestly, I think I could talk all day about this book, but I think I’d rather just recommend you all read it! Do yourself a favor and read the whole series!! Feel all the emotions, learn about the different perspectives, and enjoy the wild ride the Sad Fridays are on.

Lastly, I want to sincerely thank Scarlett Cole for writing a Pansexual character so well. For showing what it actually means to be supportive and an ally. Showing that there will be mistakes, but the effort and willingness to learn and change is all that matters. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this story.

Thank you to Scarlett Cole and Wildfire Marketing Solutions for the eARC in exchange for an honest review!

How Good It Was by Scarlett Cole

5 STARS

Release Date: February 22, 2022

SYNOPSIS: Willow – Love’s an illusion.
Everyone around her is out for what they can get, except a drummer who wanted nothing more than a steamy one-night stand. Two blue lines later, she’s on the fast track to career destruction as America’s number one wholesome content creator. Saving her reputation and collaborations will require a plan and a little social media fakery. Okay, a lot. Like twelve months of pretending to build a family with the rockstar of her dreams.
Luke – Love’s an anchor. Responsibilities and lack of band success have kept him trapped. But now, with the band suddenly making it big and his family obligations gone, life is off the rails. Yet fame, women, and arena tours only go so far in helping keep his pain buried.
Until one of the most spectacular nights of his life comes back to haunt him. She saved his career, now she wants him to help save hers.
A baby. A fake relationship. And a million dollars. Is it the perfect arrangement to avoid responsibilities? Or a deal guaranteed to ruin them both?

REVIEW: I absolutely adored this one. I’m so glad I found this series, because I’ve loved every book so far. The connections between the band members are really deep and meaningful. It’s been awesome to see them grow and learn to love/support each other better. The main female characters have all added something to the group and grown with the men. This series just have so much heart. Luke started off as a strong presence in book one, but after everything happened with his best friend and sister he kind of pulled away from the band, while simultaneously falling into some very bad habits. It was really good to see him grow into himself and recognize all he’s been through. He’s done some great things when handed some not so great situations. Luke just ended up being such a realistic character, and I enjoyed getting to know him better.
Willow happens to be the influencer that played the band’s song, which was the exposure they needed to get signed with a label. Willow has experienced all the good and bad of being an influencer. The author did an amazing job of showing both sides of social media fame and how it can greatly impact not only the person’s life, but everyone around them. Watching them both navigate fame, their own difficult experiences, and fall for one another made this one captivating read. They both have been hurt in different ways and just seeing them deal with that and help each other through it was really wonderful. I think what I like about this book is the realistic way they have to analyze, and then come to terms with their experiences that are impacting them as adults. I also love the normalization of therapy as a tool to analyze yourself and grow. I was just so happy at the end of this book, and I cannot wait for the next one. Alex’s story is sure to be one of my favorites. I have been copying quotes of Alex throughout all three books, because he’s such a ridiculously awesome character. I cannot wait to see his story. Thank you to Scarlett Cole and Wildfire Marketing Solutions for the eARC in exchange for an honest review!

Excess All Areas Series by Scarlett Cole

5 STARS

Release Date: September 21, 2021

SYNOPSIS: Matt – Loving Izabel Bryson should be the easiest thing in the world. Heck, she’s been the inspiration for at least half a dozen of the songs he’s written for his rock band, Sad Fridays. He’s loved her for a decade. But she’s his best friend and fellow-band mate’s little sister, and he promised a decade ago that he’d never put his hands on her. She can never be his, no matter how much he craves her.
Izabel – Loving Matt Palmer is the most hopeless thing in the world. The hours she spends working at the Manchester homeless shelter only go so far in distracting her from the painful truth. He doesn’t want her. Because she screwed up that awful night two years before when she slept with Matt’s brother. He will never be hers, no matter how much she yearns for him. When a good deed leads to one bed, and one night of ruthless honesty, everything is laid bare. They belong together, but acting on it will cost them everything.

REVIEW:I originally picked this one up, because I found the blurb for the second book. I am so glad I picked it up first. I absolutely LOVED this book. It pulled at all my heartstrings. Matt and Izabel’s situation was pretty tragic and their journey was a total mess, but man was I completely invested in them getting their HEA. Both of them had rough childhood experiences that have definitely impacted them as adults, but I enjoyed the depth this added to their characters. I also loved learning the band’s dynamics and meeting Nan! It was hard to read Matt and Jase’s interactions at times, but despite Jase being a complete jerk, I still felt bad for him through all of it and I’m glad his book is next. While I’m excited to get all the band member’s stories, I think I really want Alex’s the most!! Alex completely intrigued me in this book, and I can’t wait to see how he pops up in others while we wait for his story!

Release Date: November 26, 2021

SYNOPSIS: Jase – Love sucks. Especially when your own brother and fellow band-mate stole the woman you were in love with. Sitting in a Michigan recording studio with him, singing lyrics he wrote about her, is a special kind of torture. The only thing more frustrating might be the producer’s assistant who radiates sunshine and has more motivational quotes than a greeting card company.
Cerys – Love rocks. Heavy guitars, a voice with the burn of pure single malt, and lyrics that distil the meaning of love are the greatest things. If only the man singing didn’t have a temperament as foul as the Michigan winter. Jase sitting in her car while yelling at her to get him out of there is a surprise. Why she hits the accelerator and takes him to her father’s cabin on the lake is an even greater mystery. How was she supposed to know they’d end up snowed in for days? Or that when they got out again, their relationship, and her views on love, would be changed irrevocably?

REVIEW: Oh, I just absolutely loved this couple!! I saw this blurb and knew I needed to read this book, but I always feel like I have to read a series in order, so I picked up book 1 first. I am SO glad I did that. I absolutely loved One Day Like This. Also, it made this book much better, since we meet Jase then too. He was a complete mess as the antagonist of book 1, and I really wanted to learn his story. The childhood experiences that he endured were tragic, and it was heartbreaking to see how they impacted his relationship to his brother and cousins in the band. Watching him grow throughout this book was therapeutic, honestly. Cerys could definitely think about a backup career in therapy. She was PERFECT for Jase. After the not so great beginning, the way their relationship developed was so heartwarming. This is one of those books where the relationship is solid, but everything around them is messy. Which makes the ending even more satisfying. Plus, at the end we get a sneak peek of the next book, and let me tell you, I CANNOT wait for How Good It Was!!!

Four-time RITA finalist, Scarlett Cole, is a contemporary romantic suspense / contemporary romance author (represented by Louise Fury at The Bent Agency) who calls both Toronto, Canada and Manchester, England home. A born city dweller, she periodically quashes the urge to live in the country by hiking up a mountain to remind herself that living away from people would terrify the pants off her. She believes everybody deserves their love story to be told and loves her heroes on the rough and rugged side…and usually tall (because she married one of those 6ft 6” men you read about in romance!). She’s an A-type personality and Scorpio star sign, so good luck getting her to do anything she doesn’t want to. When she isn’t writing, she’s happy to talk hot men and expensive shoes while drinking a cold gin and tonic. Don’t bring up olives. As far as Scarlett is concerned, they are the devil’s food. As long as you don’t bring up olives, she’s happy to hear from any time.

Muses & Melodies by Rebecca Yarros

5 STARS!

Release Date: October 6, 2020

SYNOPSIS: If I can keep Hush Note’s leading guitarist, Nixon Winters, on the straight and narrow for the next six months, I’ll finally get my own band to manage—assuming we don’t kill each other first. The egotistical, irritating rock star is fresh out of rehab, but it’s obvious his demons followed him home—and now I’m sleeping down the hall. I’ve watched him self-destruct every summer, and with album deadlines and tour dates looming, I can’t let it happen again. My career is in his hands. But tattoos can’t cover every scar, and I’m starting to see through his trademark, irresistible charm to the damage beneath. Everyone wants the rock star.
I’m falling for the man.
If he doesn’t let me in,
he’ll never break the cycle—
And when these six months are up,
I might be the one left broken.

REVIEW: I knew I needed Nixon’s story, but I had no idea it was gonna be this good! I loved every moment of this book. There was so much emotion. And the connection between the two characters! WOW. I could feel all the chemistry. When we see Nixon in the other two books, we get this little taste of him–the mess he is, but also the hints at how good of a guy he can be. It just made me wonder what was going on with him and what his backstory was. Why is he the way he is? This story definitely delivered! I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Nixon and learning why he struggled every summer. I also fell in love with Zoe Shannon. I mean seriously, she was perfection. I think I just loved how they came together. Something I love about this series is that they all end up in forced proximity within a small town. Small towns are always characters in and of themselves, and it add this element to a Rockstar romance that really enriched the stories for me. It has this impact on the main characters and helps them really get to know each other on a deeper level. Seeing them develop a friendship, as well as a relationship, made me so much more invested in the story.

Can we also talk about the commitment to each other?! I know both Nixon and Zoe are all over the place, but not once was it about cheating. The topic of hooking up with other people comes up, there is worry over it, but it is never a real issue. It was refreshing because I feel like it comes up all the time in rockstar romances, even if it’s a misunderstanding. It just felt different from other rockstar romances I’ve read. And finally there is the epilogue. It made me so freaking happy and was honestly one of the best ones I’ve ever read. Getting all of the characters in one place, especially after reading the whole series, brought me so much joy. It was wonderful and I loved it so much–like the cherry on top of the perfect Sunday. I would definitely recommend this series!!

Rifts & Refrains by Devney Perry

5 STARS!!!

Release Date: September 29, 2020

SYNOPSIS: From the moment Quinn Montgomery sat behind her first snare and cymbal set, she was destined for fame and glory. As Hush Note’s infamous female drummer, she sets the rhythm for the band’s chart-toppings hits. When people tap their feet to their music, it’s to her pulse. Quinn is content to live in a world away from her family and the cage of her youth. Her only regret is leaving Graham Hayes behind without a goodbye. No matter how many sold-out stadiums she plays, no matter how many crowds sing her songs, his voice haunts her when the music stops. When a family tragedy forces her to return home to Montana, she plans to leave the second she’s paid her respects. But seeing Graham again turns her life upside down. As a boy, he wasn’t able to make her stay. As a man, he might be her future. If they can mend their rifts and find solace in the refrains

REVIEW: This was perfect! In true Devney Perry fashion, we got a lot of emotion and depth from the characters creating a story that just pulls at the heartstrings! Quinn has a moment in Lies and Lullabies (book 1 in the Hush Note series) where she kind of comes off like a jerk, and it made me think about who she was as a person and why she was the way she was. It was really great to get her backstory and see all the history with her family and her ex Graham. Plus, we get to see how they interact 10 years after all the drama went down. While she definitely didn’t do everything right given the situation, I think she was really justified in the way she reacted to how she was treated by her family over the years. Especially as a teenager just trying to find herself. Graham’s trajectory from being so angry with Quinn to maybe realizing it’s not all her fault was just so satisfying. When they first see each other again, it is super uncomfortable, but seeing them together as the story progressed and they processed their feelings was really great.

I also really love how well these three bandmates support each other. Jonas, Nix, Quinn are not just a band, but also an awesome family! It’s great that they haven’t dated each other even though it’s two guys and a girl. I think that just adds more to how great of a support system they are for each other. The way Nixon is there for Quinn just made me so in love with him, and I cannot wait to read his story, Muses and Melodies. I would definitely recommend this book.
