Not According to Plan by A. M. Madden

Release Date: March 23, 2020

Publisher: Entangled Amara

SYNOPSIS: For one night of my life, I dared to do something reckless. My birthday. A bar. Karaoke. And a man so hot he could melt the sun. Sparks flew. Lust took over. For one night of my life, I felt alive. Then I was back to my “boring” life. Career-driven. Goal-oriented. Always planning ahead. But nothing could have prepared me for the positive pregnancy test. We weren’t that reckless. There goes my “boring” life. And what happens when I tell the father?

REVIEW: I want to preface my review by saying that accidental pregnancy is one of my all time favorite tropes and that is why I picked this one up. It’s also been a while since I really disliked a book, but I found this plot to be over the top. I also sincerely disliked the male character, as he was always making decisions for the female lead. Personally, the ending was not a happy one for me either. The whole story just made me irritated and unhappy. I can say a lot more, but I don’t want to spoil it for anyone, because you may very well be intrigued by this one.

My Bestie’s Ex by Piper Rayne

Release Date: February 18, 2020

SYNOPSIS: I can’t borrow him.
He’s not a sweater or a skirt. He’s not even her favorite dress—the lucky one she wears on first dates. The one she probably wore on her first date with him. In my defense, I didn’t know who he was. To me, he was a cool, calm, confident stranger. He was perfection for the entire hour and a half train ride while the concrete jungle turned into a rolling green landscape. To an outsider, we probably appeared more friends than hopeful lovers. But my blush came quickly, and his dimples indented with every smile. We definitely shared a spark of what could be.
Too bad I didn’t know who he was before I fell for him, because he can’t be mine.

REVIEW: I am a complete and utter fan of Piper Rayne books, and that being said, I didn’t know how I’d feel about a book titled My Bestie’e Ex. I WAS WRONG TO EVER DOUBT THIS DUO. Seriously, this book was fantastic. First of all, I have been wanting Blanca Mancini’s book since I met her in the White Collar Brothers Series. And I just knew we’d see more of the Mancini’s! The meet cute was also just so freakin’ cute. I loved the push and pull and how strong Blanca is. The exploration of how different people fit together, or don’t, had me enthralled. Every facet of this book intrigued me. Piper Rayne usually write about families, but I am loving the idea of this rooftop crew! They do such a wonderful job with side characters. I mean I am just invested in every single friend in this group, and I need to know how each of them will find their HEA. I cannot wait for the next Rooftop Crew Series book!

The Fake by Rebecca Jenshak

Release Date: November 19, 2019

I’ve made a lot of dumb mistakes but none dumber than losing her.

Senior year. I should be partying and living it up with my friends before graduation, but one more mistake and I’m off the team.

Enter Chloe. She comes into my life at a low point, but she becomes the bright spot I reach for every day. She’s the kind of girl who makes a guy want to be a better man. And for a while, I even start to believe I’ve changed enough to deserve her.

I’ve got my eye on the future, and I’m letting my past stay where it belongs.

But the thing about the past… it always comes back to bite you when you least expect it.

This is a college sports romance series with a lot of heart and serious depth. I absolutely love how realistic every character Rebecca Jenshak has written in this series is. Another thing I really love is that both of these characters are very messy. It was wonderful to get the back story of Nathan, which made his growth throughout this story soooooo much better. Chloe was dealt such a crap hand and is really struggling to get through it. Plus, the way they meet! Then the fake relationship. I mean, I just couldn’t put this book down. So I recommend you pick this up on a day you have nothing else to do so you can binge it just like I did!

Demise of a Self-Centered Playboy by Piper Rayne

Release Date: November 19, 2019

You might be wondering how you’ll know when your playboy ways are coming to an end. For some it might be an unexpected pregnancy (ahem… you know who), for others it might be finally landing the one woman you’ve always wanted (cough… I won’t mention any names). For me, it was the death of my mentor and the subsequent reading of their will.

The signs were there, they always are. But I didn’t notice them until it was too late, and my demise was complete.

Demise Sign #1 – You find yourself thrust into the land of responsibility and you don’t immediately hightail it out of town.

Demise Sign #2 – Despite being stuck with the world’s biggest Jekyll & Hyde, some sadistic part of you actually enjoys spending time with her.

Demise Sign #3 – Your family suddenly stops wanting to weigh in on every decision in your life.

Demise Sign #4 – Somehow you end up being the voice of reason in your tumultuous partnership.

Demise Sign #5 – You start thinking of other people before yourself.

Demise Sign #6 – You agree to put yourself in the middle of an Alaskan reality TV show that has both of you sleeping in the same tent.

Demise Complete.

So I keep wondering when I’m going to not be absolutely in love with one of the Bailey’s. Now that we’re through book 5, I’ve decided it’s not going to happen.

This book was a great edition to the series! My favorite part was getting more of Denver’s story because he’s portrayed as such a frivolous character in the previous books. One of the other things I love is how characters, like Cleo, get to discover the awesomeness that is The Bailey Family! Cleo and Denver both really grew on me throughout the story, and I love seeing them fumble around each other. I laughed, I swooned, and I was surprised, which is exactly what I want from a story!

The Christmas Keeper by Jenn McKinlay

Release Date: October 29, 2019

Publisher: Berkley

All he wants for Christmas…

The second Joaquin Solis saw Savannah Wilson, he knew she was destined to be his wife. Unfortunately, Savannah’s sights are set on a happily-ever-after of another kind: skewering the boss who got her fired. Until then, she won’t act on the scorching sexual chemistry that is brewing between them, leaving Joaquin scrambling to find a way to capture her heart.

When the opportunity arises to use his ranch to boost Savannah’s publicity career, Joaquin doesn’t hesitate to invite her into his world at Shadow Pines and woo her with all of his Christmas loving mojo. It’s a gamble since the holidays aren’t really Savannah’s thing and helping her might also mean losing her as she plans to shake the dust off of their quaint town in North Carolina and head back to New York City the first chance she gets.

But Joaquin believes in the magic of Christmas and he knows with a little help from his friends at the Happily Ever After Bookstore, he can convince the woman of his dreams that he’s a keeper…

Okay, I LOVED The Good Ones, which is the first book in this series. I was so excited for this one! I kind of wanted to smack Savannah, but the tension was good at times. A lot happens in this book and I am here for it! I also love that the romance bookstore is a big part of this one, just like the first book. Weaving in romance writers is just so genius, and really makes me feel connected to the entire story. PLUS, this one takes place at Christmas, which just adds more warm and fuzzy feelings to Savannah and Joaquin’s journey to each other. Ineed all my fellow romance readers to go read this series!

The Christmas Keeper Excerpt

Savannah slipped into the elf costume and was surprised and delighted to find that the dress actually had pockets. So that was something. She glanced at her reflection in the mirror. It was not good.

The striped stockings were not flattering, and the length of the dress on her tall frame made it a mini-dress. She cinched the wide black belt in a desperate attempt to show she had a waistline but the Peter Pan collar still made her look like a doofus. To top it all off, her pointy hat had a jingle bell on the end of it and it rang with every step she took. Ridiculous.

She stomped out of the bathroom and through the office. Whose idea was this Santa-and-elf thing? Shouldn’t they have run it by her?

She found Maisy and “Santa” on the front porch. He was leaning over the railing and waving at cars that drove by and calling, “Ho ho ho.”

Savannah glowered at Maisy.

“Oh, you look so cute,” Maisy cried. Joaquin turned around and took in the sight of Savannah. The grin beneath his bushy white beard was wide.

“Don’t!” She pointed at him. “If anyone is laughing at anyone, I’m laughing at you because you’re wearing a fake beard and a belly pillow.”

“Better than fake ears,” he said. He lifted a white-gloved finger and poked the pointy ear sewn into her hat. She smacked his hand away.

“Stop that,” she said. She turned to Maisy. “You owe me so huge for this.”

“No doubt,” Maisy said. “This is definitely above and beyond, especially for someone as ambivalent about the holidays as you. I really appreciate your digging deep and taking one for the team.”

“Come on,” Joaquin said. “Let’s go out to the street and see if we can wave people in.”

Maisy handed Savy a cloth sack full of candy canes. “Have fun!”

“What? No!” Savannah protested. It was bad enough people coming to the shop might see her but if they stood on the street everyone would see her in this ridiculous getup.

“What’s your elf name?” Joaquin asked as he walked

“I don’t have an elf name,” she snapped.

“Then let’s make one,” he said. “How about Snickerdoodle Jingle Bells?”

“Ginger McSnowball.”

“No.” She gave him a grumpy look to mask the laugh that almost escaped.

“I know.” He snapped his gloved fingers but no sound came out. “Mistletoe Merrybottom.”

“Shut up.” This time a snort escaped and he grinned at her. She ignored him. “You can call me Elf. It’s a nice gender-neutral name that’s easy to remember.”

“Boring.” He rolled his eyes but he didn’t argue. He continued down the walkway then  began to walk toward the center of town. Savy hurried to catch up to him.

“What are you doing?” she asked.

“Going where there’s more foot traffic,” he said. “We need to be on the corner to direct shoppers toward the bookstore.”

Savy was not having it. She stopped walking. It took Joaquin a couple of paces to realize she wasn’t behind him. He paused and looked back at her.

“I am not going to stand in the center of town dressed like an elf,” she said. “Public humiliation was not a part of the bargain when I came to help Maisy out.”

He studied her for a moment. He looked as if he was undecided as to what to say. Savy almost told him not to bother since there was nothing he could say that would change her mind.

Finally, he just sighed and continued walking. “Suit yourself,” he said. “But since it’s going to take a Christmas miracle to save Maisy’s bookstore, I, for one, am willing to make an ass of myself if it helps her keep her shop.”

Awk-Weird by Avery Flynn

5 STARS!!!!

Release Date: October 14, 2019

Publisher: Entangled: Amara

There’s more to me than just being awk-weird. I own my own flower shop, have some great friends, and I have my eye on adopting the most adorable kitten. But sadly, hot guys don’t tend to be blown away by my trivia-spouting, dorky self.

So when a Thor-lookalike who happens to be a professional hockey player hits on me at my bestie’s wedding rehearsal party… You better believe I climbed that tree like a cat. And the fact that it happened not once, not twice, but three times? Yeah, that’s pretty much a once-in-a-lifetime experience for a woman like me.

There’s zero chance I’ll end up ever seeing him again… right?

Until the pregnancy test comes up positive. What happens next?

Oh my God, I wish I knew…

I fell in love Avery Flynn after reading Parental Guidance which is the first book in the Ice Knights series. She writes such a good story, plus she can make me laugh hysterically. This book was no different. Tess is such an endearing character, and that opening scene is absolutely amazing. I just was so excited to see what would happen throughout this whole story. Also, we get introduced to Cole in the previous book and his shit show of a relationship history, which made me so curious to how that was going to play into things. Let’s just say that both of these characters are flawed and wonderfully human. I am so excited to see where the rest of this series goes!

YES! I loved this book!!

I’ve read Samantha Young’s contemporary series, On Dublin Street, and absolutely loved it. So when I heard she had branched out into Paranormal Romance as S. Young, I knew I needed to check it out. This book did not disappoint! Thea Quinn is damaged and strong and everything one could want in a female character. She’s just an amazing lead female character and I fell absolutely in love with her. Then we have Conall, who is a yummy lead male. He goes in pursuit of Thea with the intention of saving his sister, but learns so much more along the journey with her. I love that his strength and Thea’s strength really compliment each other when they are faced with new enemies. This is an amazing enemies to lovers story, and I would DEFINITELY recommend it. I did feel it was a little too long, but I loved the story and can’t wait for the next book in the series!
