Only You by Samantha Young

3.5 STARS

Release Date: February 21, 2022

SYNOPSIS: Once upon a time, Monroe Sinclair was Brodan Adair’s best friend, but now he’s a stranger and one of Hollywood’s leading men… It took Monroe Sinclair eighteen years to return home to Ardnoch after a fateful night that devastated her friendship with Brodan Adair. She fled her unrequited love for him, as well as her difficult family life, and tried not to look behind her. Only a daughter’s guilt could lure her back to the Highlands and the assumption that Brodan Adair rarely ever sets foot in their hometown. She can handle seeing the rest of the Adairs so long as she can avoid her ex-best friend and the only man she’s ever loved. Nothing is more important to Brodan than family, and only his demons have the power to keep him from them. For years, acting was something he was lucky enough to be good at, yet it wasn’t his priority—Ardnoch and his siblings were. But when a ghost from his past returned out of the blue, Brodan tried to outrun its haunting, taking him further and further from home. When exhaustion finally forces him back to the family fold, the last thing he wants is to encounter another ghost. But that’s exactly what Monroe Sinclair has been to him. When a promise to his nephew obliges Brodan to work with Monroe, it forces them to face their past. The explosive connection that has always existed between them resurrects truths long buried. Yet, just when they might be on the brink of a second chance, the ghost from Brodan’s past finally catches up to him and threatens not just their happiness, but their very lives.

REVIEW: This book definitely gave the couple a rough start. If you’ve read this series, you knew this one was gonna be messy from the things you learned about these two in the previous books. But I don’t think I expected Brodan to be so angry in this one. And to be completely honest, I didn’t really like him at the beginning. I felt like Monroe deserved so much more. Not to mention these two are 37 years-old, and I needed Brodan to start acting like it. Luckily, he figures it out and we get to see these two find the happy ever after they deserve. These two have had a seriously rough road. It’s partially their fault, partially other people’s fault, but it’s damn messy. It was nice to get the final story of the Adair family and see them all happy with their significant others. I also enjoyed seeing the other couples play their part in the story and the kids as well.

Funny enough, I think that thing that really intrigued me in this book was the interactions between Brodan’s bodyguard, Walker, and Monroe’s friend, Sloane. Luckily, Samantha’s new series and next book, Beyond the Thistles, is their book! It comes out in May, and I am counting down the days until we can see what happens with these two. Walker is a pretty amazing guy character in this one. While he has a good mind about him and he’s a good influence on Brodan, he’s also so quiet and mysterious. I seriously can’t wait to see him fall hard!

Whispers of You by Catherine Cowles

4.5 Stars

Release Date: January 31, 2023

Synopsis: One night—a single moment—cost me everything. My body, broken beyond repair. The boy I’d thought was my forever. The life I’d always dreamt of. Now, Holt’s back. And he’s no longer a boy, but a man with shadows in his eyes and demons haunting him. He says he’s here to make things right. To get back a little bit of all we’ve lost. And he doesn’t show any signs of leaving the small town that has been my refuge. As stolen moments turn to days, Holt’s around every corner. With his burning stare and lingering touches. Before long, my walls come crashing down and I’m just hoping that taking this second chance isn’t as reckless as it feels. But not everyone is happy that Holt has returned. As tragedy strikes again, I’m the one left in the crosshairs. And Holt might not be able to save me this time…

Fall for Holt and Wren in their second-chance, forced proximity small town romance from USA Today Bestselling Author, Catherine Cowles!

✔️ Second Chance

✔️ Forced Proximity

✔️ Small Town

✔️ Suspense

Review: I loved reading about Wren and Holt when they were young and seeing their relationship. The beginning of this book had me kind of thinking, “how are these two ever going to overcome what happened?” I should’ve known better, because Catherine Cowles is the queen of showing us why couples belong together and why their second chances are so deserved. I think I appreciated the depth of the characters the most. Wren is such a wonderful character, and I think her disposition is the reason that her and Holt could find themselves together again. She seems to just be a genuinely kind person.

Something Catherine Cowles is very good at is taking a situation that I’m not sure the characters can overcome, and having them overcome it. She is amazing at humanizing the mistakes that people make and writing couples that just seem meant to be. Something else that she’s good at is still surprising me here and there. As someone who’s read a ton of romantic suspense, and watched a lot of thrillers and horror movies, I usually can pick up on the twists in a plot. Although I can usually see some parts of her stories coming, there’s always at least one part that I am thoroughly surprised at.

Another thing I love about Catherine Cowles books is that the family dynamics are always amazing. And while there’s real blood related families, there’s also found families in her books that really intrigue me and warm my heart. I love Wren’s relationships with the Hartleys despite Holt’s absence. And don’t even get me started on the Hartleys. I cannot wait for the rest of the books in this series! Nash is next and I know he’s gonna be great, but of course the two books I want are going be the last two. Yes, I am claiming Roan and Law right now, so back off! Haha. If you read this book and you wanna talk about these siblings I am 100% here for it.

Thank you to Catherine Cowles for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A best friend’s brother, small town romance from Catherine Cowles

I’ve only ever had one secret: I’ve been in love with my best friend’s brother for as long as I can remember. West Castille is everything my little-girl heart dreamed of and everything I still yearn for, even now. There is just one problem. He’s never felt the same. West moved on to the military and then into private security, using his finely honed protective streak to keep everyone but me safe, while I lost myself in my music and a coffee-shop job in our small town. But when creepy messages on my social media turn to threatening notes left at my door, West is the one who shows up on my porch. I tell myself it’s brotherly concern or a favor for his sister, but that all feels like a lie when his skin brushes mine. One stolen kiss could send us hurtling into disaster. Because when my stalker sees the way we touch, he’ll do anything to end us both…

Fractured Sky by Catherine Cowles

ALL THE STARS!

Release Date: October 25, 2022

Synopsis: Damaged. Broken. Destroyed. I’ve heard it all. A single moment of trusting the wrong person shattered my life into pieces, and my family has never looked at me the same. It’s impossible to convince them that I’m anything more than the broken girl they rescued all those years ago. Until I meet him. Ramsey’s surly demeanor and menacing scowl scare most of the world away. But not
me. Not when I’ve seen his gentle hands soothe an abused colt or comfort a terrified mare. And when I finally get up the courage to strike out on my own, Ramsey’s there.
Roommates felt like such a safe proposition until Ramsey’s lingering touches and
wicked smile light a fire in me I don’t think will ever be extinguished. And he feels it too… But just as my new life begins to take root, an evil from my past emerges from the
shadows, casting a darkness on my newfound freedom. And this time, they won’t settle for pieces of me. They want everything…

An age gap, roommates-to-lovers small town romance from USA Today
bestselling author Catherine Cowles…

Review: Talk about series I love, this one really brought the entire series full circle. This whole series is influenced by a kidnapping that took place when these characters were children. Readers get Everly‘s side of the story in the first book, and you learn about how Hayes feels responsible for the events that happen. I absolutely fell in love with those two in the first book, and I knew I’d love the rest of this series.

It was really amazing to get Shiloh‘s point of view from not only the kidnapping, but also the present. She continuously pops up in books 1-4, but she is a bit of a mystery. Readers kind of get a glimpse of Ramsey in previous books, but with even more depth in the last book, I knew I was going to love him! These two were so perfect for each other, and I loved seeing their growth and healing as they connected to each other. Their connection to each other and with horses really humanize them. I’ve been invested in Shiloh since book one, and having to wait for book five was ridiculously hard, but totally worth the wait. I also love how the boys, Aiden and Elliot, came into the story. The connection they had to both Shiloh and Ramsey was so heartwarming. It’s really wonderful to see all of the characters from previous books in this one, and we get a wedding at the end that really brings the whole series full circle. I honestly love when I go into a book with very high expectations, and I feel like all of those expectations are exceeded. This book was everything I wanted to be and more!

Catherine Cowles does such an amazing job at writing multi-layered romantic suspense with characters that have depth. Her books just pull me in and every series feels like it’s better than the last, which doesn’t seem possible. I fell in love with The Wrecked Series, and now I’m obsessed with this Tattered and Torn series. I cannot wait to see what Catherine Cowles brings us next.

Take Me to the Lake by Kaci Rose

3.5 STARS

Cash: The tracks along the treeline were my first clue. I might not have experience with women, but I know my way around the woods. And Hope is not safe living out here alone. And I’m pretty sure that’s my fault. Her stalker knows I have money, and that I’ll pay any price to keep the woman I love safe from harm. But what her stalker doesn’t know is that I plan on making them pay instead.

Take Me to the Lake is Book 3 in the Mountain Men of Whiskey River Series!

REVIEW: First of all, can we discuss this cover?! Yes, please, take me to the lake sir. I have liked the vibe of the covers on this series, but this one is by far my favorite–surprising with no abs, I know! Anyway, there is an on-going theme in this series of men embody some very masculine traits, yet wouldn’t meet all the expectations set by society of a man. It’s the perfect juxtaposition to make an intriguing male character that you need to know all about. I love that the men are protective of the women they meet. I love that the romantic suspense side pulls you in, and that the crazy/idiotic ex’s are shown whose boss. I feel like I kind of know what I’m getting with these books, and that is perfect for my mood at times. I hope you enjoy these characters as I did!

Shattered Sea by Catherine Cowles

5 Stars!

Release Date: September 13, 2022

Synopsis: I’ve known every kind of pain. Of the heart. Of the body. Of the soul. All I want now is the freedom that comes from making my art.

The last thing I expected was Hollywood royalty to waltz into my gallery in a small town in the middle of nowhere and see me.

A man like Boden Cavanaugh shouldn’t understand me. Shouldn’t be able to soothe my most ragged edges. Even worse, he makes me want the one thing I can’t have. Him.

All it takes is one spark, and friendship catches flame. But as our attraction burns bright, there are forces desperate to send us back into the darkness. And they’ve already killed before…

Shattered Sea, a sexy, suspenseful, small town romance from USA Today bestselling author Catherine Cowles, is out now!

He was the last person she expected to fall for…

Review: Once again Catherine Cowles has me staying up way past my bedtime, because I have to know what happens in one of her stories. Seriously, I could not put this one down once I started it. I absolutely adore the connection between Boden & Laiken, their back stories, and how they connected through the pain and loss that they’ve endured. I enjoyed seeing them get to know each other, become friends, and watching their relationship grow into more. Catherine Cowles is one of the only authors that can get me to not only read, but actually love a slow burn. The way she pairs the slow burn with romantic suspense makes me so invested in the story as a whole. Not to mention, her characters are so amazing that I’m also fully invested in the characters themselves. Something I find fascinating, is that there’s a lot going on in this book, and yet somehow, she makes it not seem so over the top, but instead kind of realistic.

This whole series has been absolutely amazing and I have been dying for the next book. Shiloh has been a huge presence in all of the series, but also a complete mystery at the same time. I’m really looking forward to getting her story. What I’ve been most curious about is how Catherine Cowles has set up her story with Ramsey who has been even more mysterious than Shiloh. Although, we finally get a little look at Ramsey in this book, and I am absolutely in love! I cannot wait to learn more about him as a character. There’s just something about the way Catherine Cowles writes her characters that has me absolutely 100% in and needing to know what happens to them in every single book. It is so fun seeing the group of friends and family from previous books in the present book, it just adds so much to the reading experience overall. I love this series and I cannot recommend it enough! The countdown is on to Fractured Sky coming October 25th!!

The way Boden’s muscles tightened told me the little he’d shared was only the tip of the iceberg. That tension called to me, and I reached out, kneading the flesh along his shoulders. His head fell to my own shoulder, and he sighed. “I’ll only let you do that forever.”

I chuckled. “I do have the magic touch.”

“You could be making millions with those hands.”

“I only use them on very special recipients. They aren’t for sale.”

Boden straightened, but as he did, he came closer. Our faces were close. Lips just a breath away. The urge to lean forward, to know what he felt like, tasted like, was strong. Boden’s hand skated up my arm to my neck to tangle in my hair.
I knew that Boden Cavanaugh was more than dangerous. But like a moth to a flame, I kept getting closer.
