Second to None by K.A. Linde

4.5 STARS

Release Date: August 30, 2022

SYNOPSIS: Maddox Nelson is the only boy I’ve ever loved. And the only one to break my heart. I thought I was over that long ago. After drowning the heartbreak in two failed marriages, I should want safe and easy, and Maddox is nothing but complicated. Now that I’m back home in Savannah, I can’t deny the pull toward him. He’s the grumpy to my sunshine, the introvert to my extrovert, the uncompromising to my go with the flow. But years of friendship, love, and tangled lust binds us together in the city where it all began. When heat flies between us, he makes it clear that we already had our chance. Both of us should move on. Except I’m no longer okay with that idea. I’ll prove to him that I come second to none.

First love can’t come second.
A stand alone second chance grumpy sunshine romance about Josie & Maddox.

REVIEW: K.A. Linde puts grumpy/sunshine and best friend’s brother into this wonderful read. Oh, did I mention there is a small town and a great friends group? I was all in for this one. Not to mention, readers meet Maddox and Josie in the previous books of the series, Hold the Forever and At First Hate, and the anticipation of their story was at an all time high before it even came out! I just loved the angst, the pining, the way these two struggled to get it right. Josie was one of those characters I wanted to shake some sense into, but her childhood experiences didn’t make her equipped to deal with the seriousness of their relationship. Seeing these two grow and overcome the hurt, was so satisfying!

Let Me Love You by Scarlett Cole

Release Date: August 30, 2022

SYNOPSIS: He’s loved her forever. Now she’s marrying another man.
Chaya – The wedding plans are underway, and the Save the Date cards are sent. If only the man she was marrying was the man she loved with all her heart.
Being a contemporary woman in a traditional faith requires compromise. Being in love with her best friend, Sad Fridays’ guitarist, Ben King, the man who saved her years ago, is agony. It’s official. He has ruined her for all other men.
Ben – When Ben receives his Save The Date card, he gets so drunk he falls off stage during their American breakthrough tour. He’s loved Chaya for what feels like forever. But her father made it crystal clear. Ben will never be the one for his daughter. Now she’s marrying another man, and Ben is beginning to wonder just when Chaya will realise it’s him she should be saying I do to.
When tragedy reunites them, Chaya is caught between her fiancé and her love. And it’s up to Ben to fight for Chaya or let her go forever.

I’m going to be honest with you all here. I just could not read this one, but not because it was anything less than great. Confused? I get it, but here’s the thing, I AM ABSOLUTELY IN LOVE with this series. The last book, Love You Like That, may be one of my all time favorite books, and I have been so interested in Ben and Chaya since book one. Are you scratching your head and mentally screaming “Jessica, why didn’t you read this then?!” Okay, here it is… I HATE love triangles, like with a passion. Now don’t get me wrong, I do occasionally read one when it is in a beloved series (yes, such as this one), BUT I have to be in the mood. Yes, I am cursed with the dreaded “mood reader” disorder. So I have not picked this up yet, because I would not have given it a fair rating if I read now. I am going to make an exception for this one in the future though, because I have to see Ben and Chaya’s journey and know how this amazing series ends. I know it’s going to break my heart and then put it all back together again. So I’ll leave you with this, please read this entire series! You will not regret it!!

The tattoo across my right hip says it all really. A Life Less Ordinary. Inked by the amazingly talented Luke Wessman at the Wooster Street Social Club (a.k.a. New York Ink). Why is it important? Well, it sums up my view on life. That we should all aspire to live a life that is less boring, less predictable. Be bold, and do something amazing. I’ve made some crazy choices. I’ve been a car maker, a consultant, and even a senior executive at a large retailer running strategy. Born in England, spent time in the U.S. and Japan, before ending up in Canada where I met my own, personal hero – all six and a half feet of him. Both of us are scorpios! Yeah, I know! Should have checked the astrological signs earlier, but somehow it works for us. We have two amazing kids, who I either could never part with or could easily be convinced to sell on e-bay. I’ve wanted to be a writer for a really long time. Check through my office cupboards or my computer and you’ll find half written stories and character descriptions everywhere. Now I’m getting the chance to follow that dream. I am represented by Beth Phelan at The Bent Agency, NY.

Mine to Hold By Natasha Madison

4 STARS

Release Date: July 29, 2022

SYNOPSIS: Shelby – I got a love letter the night before I was supposed to marry the love of my life. Except the letter wasn’t for me. My future husband had written it to someone else.
Weston (Ace) – Standing at the altar to watch my best friend get married was an honor. Finding out that he was sleeping with my girlfriend was a nightmare. Everything I knew was a lie. When the opportunity came to get out of town and leave my ex behind, I took it. Umbrella drinks and broken hearts don’t mix well. I shouldn’t want Shelby for myself – but I do. I want her more than I’ve ever wanted anyone. Maybe, she was just mine to hold.

Review: This one was super cute! I love the chemistry between these two and the awareness between them when they’re on the trip together. I just loved how much they loved each other without really knowing it. Some thing I sincerely enjoy in a romance is when a guy is all in, and Ace was all in. The little bumps in the road added to the story, but the ending was absolutely perfect.

When her nose isn’t buried in a book, or her fingers flying across a keyboard writing, she’s in the kitchen creating gourmet meals. You can find her, in four inch heels no less, in the car chauffeuring kids, or possibly with her husband scheduling his business trips. It’s a good thing her characters do what she says, because even her Labrador doesn’t listen to her…

Love You Like That by Scarlett Cole

ALL THE DAMN STARS

Release Date: May 17, 2022

SYNOPSIS: Zoe Atkins wanted exactly one thing. To be the world’s greatest percussionist. Instead, she’s on a tour bus engaged in a stupid bet with rock star, Alex King, trying to fill the hole left behind when her dream gave up on her. The prickly former percussionist wasn’t supposed to steal his heart. With her distrust of lipstick and love of men’s pyjamas, she was everything playboy, Alex, didn’t want in a lover. At least, that’s what he thought when he bet her he could find her a hook up during their tour. Until he’s forced to watch the woman he’s come to desire leave the bar with her perfect guy, taking a piece of his already bruised and battered heart with her. Now it’s up to the Sad Fridays’ rocker to use his passionate powers of persuasion to convince Zoe he’s more than her wingman. He’s her everything.

REVIEW: I knew Alex‘s book had the potential to be my favorite, because Alex has been one of the most interesting characters throughout the series. He has shown emotionally intelligence and caring every single time he’s interacted with the main characters of the first three books. I wanted to know more about him and have been counting the days until we got his story. The wait was absolutely worth it.

I am in love with Alex and Zoe. Both of them have these aspects of their lives that are painful, traumatic, and heart wrenching to read about, yet they are both such awesome caring characters. And the things that make them “difficult” in others’ eyes are what make them perfect for one another.

It’s almost hard for me to write this review, because this book hit me so deep. I have so many amazing feelings about it that I don’t even know where to start. This whole series has been great and pulled at my heartstrings so much. The characters have gone through so many challenges, and readers get to see them work through everything that has happened them, see the impact it has on their relationships with each other and with their significant others. I think what I like about the series is it’s so freaking real. There are these difficult times that they grow through that are just so magical. The connections, the feelings, and the support of everyone in these books is just so fantastic. While I personally can identify with some of the things that Alex is going through, I can only imagine what Zoe is going through. Losing your hearing when being a musician is vital to who you are must be an absolute nightmare. Something I appreciated was seeing the people around her think they were helping/supporting her, but Alex being helpful and supportive in a way that actually worked. It was such a good example of not putting your beliefs and solutions onto another person, and I think that’s what made it even better. Alex has shown his emotional intelligence throughout the whole series when he has given advice or helped handle situations in the previous books, so I knew that he was going to being that into his own story. He has his own insecurities and hangups, but he takes the time to pause and reflect and really deal with what’s going on in the moment. It is just so refreshing to see all of it play out. The relationship that Alex and Zoe have is absolute relationship goals!

Honestly, I think I could talk all day about this book, but I think I’d rather just recommend you all read it! Do yourself a favor and read the whole series!! Feel all the emotions, learn about the different perspectives, and enjoy the wild ride the Sad Fridays are on.

Lastly, I want to sincerely thank Scarlett Cole for writing a Pansexual character so well. For showing what it actually means to be supportive and an ally. Showing that there will be mistakes, but the effort and willingness to learn and change is all that matters. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this story.

The MRS. Degree by Sara Ney

Release Date: May 3, 2022

SYNOPSIS: I never thought I would get pregnant in college. When I did, I thought leaving Jack Jennings was doing him a giant favor—he had a bright future ahead of him as a football star—the last thing he needed was me and a baby standing in his way of his dreams. Honestly? I figured he would eventually forget about me.
I would raise our child in secret and watch Jack on television, and the pain of what I’d done to him would heal.
The last person I expected to see on my brothers doorstep seven years later was Jack; obviously, or I wouldn’t have answered it. A superstitious athlete, dreams were keeping him awake at night that were preventing him from excelling on the field—dreams he was hoping I could make…disappear. He looked so good. So much older.
Kind. Handsome. Turns out, he hadn’t forgotten about me either, and he hadn’t put our past behind him.

The MRS. Degree is Book 2 in the new Accidentally in Love Series!

REVIEW: Let’s start with Jack. He is totally book boyfriend material! I think the way he really loved Penelope, and the way he handles everything was pretty mature. I also just love Sara Ney’s humor, and some of her sports romances are my absolute favorites! We see Davis and Juliet from The Player Hater right in the beginning of this one. Davis is Penelope’s brother and bought her a house right next to his. They’re super close, and he is an awesome uncle to Skipper! While I agree with the sentiment of Davis’ feelings about everything Penelope kept secret, I didn’t love the way he went about telling her that. Secret baby is always a hard trope, and I think Sara Ney did well with this one in general. For me personally, the reasons for the secret have to be very specific things, or I just have trouble with it. This one did not have one of those reasons, so it was just hard for me to get past that (which is totally a personal problem). If you like the secret baby trope, I think you’re going to like this one!
